Comment posted on Trackback Spam Be Gone: What I Use to Cut Down on Junk Trackbacks by Ingrid Abboud
Hi Ana,
Hope your day is going well so far.
YaY! Another super useful plugin for me to add to my collection:)!
I’ve actually noticed a small increase in the amount of spammy trackbacks these last few weeks, so this plugin may be just want I need. Because if I see another one of those tricky credit repair people and their friends linking to another one of my posts again - it’s not gonna’ be pretty lol.
In any case, I just installed it now.
Thanks so much for bringing this little trackback spam annihilator to my attention
.
Cheers

- Trackbacks vs Pingbacks Explained: Why You Should Definitely Read This Post
Ana,Thanks so much for taking the time to check that out for me. I absolutely want to be a DoFollow blog. I’m embarrassed to say that I actually thought it already was
!As for Disqus - although I switched to it from IntenseDebate several months ago and I seemed to like it - I think I will be switching again very soon (I mean now) to CommentLuv. I think readers can also benefit from this much more and I love the engaging community.
I think Patricia from Lavenderuses will also be happy to hear that lol
.Now all I need to do is not screw up and lose all my comments in the transfer process! Cause I lost a couple here and there when switching the second time.
PS - Love the fact that you love seeing me here
. Cause you know I’ll be back!Cheers
- Trackbacks vs Pingbacks Explained: Why You Should Definitely Read This Post
Ana,
You must be bored of seeing me here today lol! But it’s not my fault you whip out good and useful content that keeps me coming back for more
.This is an exceptional explanation. Thank you for making it so easy to read and idiot proof
- and for including so many examples. Like you said, sometimes we think we know what they are. It seems I had a lot more to learn on the topic.I have a Question for you if you don’t mind.
How do you get your pingbacks to look all nice and neat like that? I mean with just the title and without all the added html and so forth. Mine don’t look very pretty
. Do I need to install something or just tweak the settings somewhere? Thanks again for this very efficient and helpful tutorial.
PS - Seeing the kind of super blogger gal that Tia is, I’m sure she’ll be here in no time lol

Cheers
- My Crazy Ways of Blogging and Monetizing A Famous Blog
Hey Hesham,
and hello to you my dear Ana,Hesham, I just love the honesty of this post. Besides being brilliant and informative, it’s genuine. And anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting you - whether virtually or in person, or working with you - knows that that’s just what you are.
All this talk about monetizing makes me think even more that it’s time I give it a go. I think I’m only interested in affiliate links for now though and I know exactly which ones. It’s something I’ll be looking into more seriously once my new blog redesign is up and running.
One thing I should also do which you talked about, is build an email list. I haven’t done that at all yet.
Anyways enough about what I should do. All I stopped by to say is keep rocking! This is a very inspiring post with tons of useful information. You’re doing a fantastic job, both monetizing and running Famous Bloggers. Wishing you continued success.
Cheers

‘Lo, Ana!
As usual, an informative and very useful post. You’re raisin’ the bar for the rest of us, m’dear!
As luck would have it, I’ve been noticing a rise in trackbacks the last week, so I’ve been monitoring them closely. However, I haven’t yet gotten around to checking out the source sites. I’m betting that I’ll find the majority of them are spam.
I’ve been a strong advocate of Akismet, because it’s caught a lot of spam before it could clutter up my blog. But it appears to do absolutely nothing about trackbacks. So I’ve dropped Akismet in favor of GASP and STBV. I’ll watch it for a few days, but if Justin recommends it, I’m sure it’s solid. Thanks for the heads up!

Hello Doc,
Nice to hear from you again. I’m glad you are now using GASP and STBV. I am confident that it will work well, better than Akismet.
Thanks for stopping by,
Ana
For sure , We check them all and the one program you posted last week helps a lot too , great advice as always , know since we start using the one program we have cut way down on spammers for sure

Great find again Ana, I too noticed a lot of fake trackbacks on other blogs!
I actually found a website which sells a wp plugin that does this exact thing(I mean sending false trackbacks).
Oh well I think as anti-spam plugins get better spammer tools get better too.

Hmmm I started reading your post and as an early adopter of GASP did not see an increase in trackback spam so there I was wondering why this is so, only to discover that I have been using the Simple Trackback Validation plugin anyway. Well at least I can support Justin’s findings. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I’ve also been using Simple Trackback Validation on my blog since the start, and I love it.
Will be passing this post on. I don’t know that people really understand a trackback to begin with, and so this will help. Everyone should have that plugin installed whether they understand the concept or not (kind of like taking vitamins and minerals).

Hi Ana,
I’ve noted a sharp rise in trackback spam recently.
As you note it seems that spammers are always once step ahead. Creative little buggers

Hi Ana,
I’m quite lost with those trackbacks. LOL! I had no idea what their purpose was until stumbling upon that post. So overall it is a great thing and not so great, because of the abuse, you mentioned. Spammers are without doubt the worst thing that can happen to a blog and unfortunately if they want - they often find ways to ruin everything. Whether it be through the comments or those trackbacks, you have whole lot more work to do because of them. Some nice resources you have mentioned. Will see if the following plug-ins are compatible with my blog.

Hi Ana,
I receive a lot of comments with Trackback. Now I will check these sites before allowing them. That’s incredible how much things these spammers use…
Thanks for sharing!

That’s right David. With trackback we can definitely check them to make sure.
Have a nice day,

Hey Ana, I just retweeted you. I have done a horrible job at using spam filters for comments and trackbacks so if nothing else you inspire me to get one plugged in on my blog. Hey wait, didn’t you inspire me yesterday too?

I’m a little confused Ana.
So are you talking about the “comment” that shows your content has been shared, and the ones that are from a spam blog? I’m still getting familiar with the techy side of things and terms.
Thanks!

Hey Ana
Another technique spammers use is automated blogs with automated linking to other blogs based on certain criteria. The plugin they use is very similar to the “Related Posts” plugin except it looks for related posts on other blogs.
