Still not using KeywordLuv plugin on your blog?
You should. For more than one reason.
But later on that; let me start with telling you a bit about the plugin - judging by the fact that many of my commentators have no idea how to use it, plus I got one too many questions about it.
Since I am too lazy to write what others have written before me so well, I’ll take some excerpts from KeywordLuv download page:
Description
Reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text.
In other words, you are letting your commentators to use both their name - to make the comments more personal and less spammy, and the keywords that will link to the URL they chose to use in the “website” section.
Example
If they enter “Steve@the best bank” in the Name field, their comment will have:

In the first example, they entered @ symbol between their keywords and their name and only their keywords became the anchor text.
In the second example, that’s what your anchor text would look like on a site without KeywordLuv.
For a live example, see the comment section below (and leave me a comment to test it out!).
KeywordLuv & Search Engine Ranking
So here comes the cool part.
It was brought to my attention by the fabulous Lisa Drubec of TheFriendlyBlogger.com.
Check out what she saw when she checked out her search engine ranking for the term “Blog Building Basics“:

Yes, that’s her blog in spot #3 for the term and yes, it’s MY BLOG for the same term in spot #4.
All thanks to KeywordLuv and Lisa using that term as the keyword in the comment section.
Marketing Takeaway
There’s a whole lot more to KeywordLuv then simply giving your readers an opportunity to advance their blogs (what’s the fun in that, huh?) through providing great comments on your blog and building quality links for themselves at the same time.
As you saw in the example above, it can also place your blog on the Google map.

There’s absolutely no reason to skip using keywords on KeywordLuv enabled blogs, like mine.
My question is: how do you prevent your blog from spam?
I know for a fact, that people tend to use bots to scrape hundreds, if not thousand of comments with keywordluv enabled.
The only way I found to prevent spam comment is manually approve comments, one by one. And that’s pretty tedious.
Do you know other ways to prevent that?
Thanks,
Mark

It’s weird how commentluv has been around for years and I just recently found out about it. I don’t know about keywordluv but most likely this plugin has also been around for quite some time. Anyway the way I see it there are pros and cons.
One of the cons is that you’ll probably get more spam than before. On the other hand, those that are commenting were browsing your site anyway (regulars or via Google…it doesn’t really matter). And if your site ends up on various commentluv or keywordluv lists…it’s not that bad either. In the end you’ll end up with more backlinks, probably a good enough reason too feel better in regards to the spam comments you’re getting.
Also a good thing is that when somebody want to comment, in order to be sure that you’ll approve its reply, he’ll will spend some more time carefully reading the post and the comments thus increasing the “time on page”. And we know “time on page” is one of those small details that Google pays attention to. Also commentluv might help decrease your “bounce rate” stat.

I don’t find that I get much spam due to using CommentLuv, Mike.
I actually use CL Premium on my blog that comes with GASP - a spam-controlling plugin, which works great. You can also download it independently from your WP plugin directory.
To me, reader engagement far outweighs any potential spam threat.
A tremendous resource given the value of CommenLuv for raising the visibility of one’s blog. I recently enabled the premium version of CL and have written a review of its tremendous promise for bloggers and readers alike.

As an alternative, you can opt to purchase CommentLuv Premium when it comes out in November (you can add your name to the list to be notified of the release here: https://trafficgenerationcafe.online/comment-luv). It has a feature that works the same as KeywordLuv and much more.
keywordluv is my new favorite tool because it creates a win-win situation for the blog and for the commenter. I really believe that the only way to win, especially long term, is by playing fairly and helping others. Thanks

Probably a lot of them just wanting a backlink and nothing else but with moderation you only need to approve those you want to keep anyway. Actually I suppose it is giving a little back to the community in the form of a backlink.

Certainly for all blog pages. The plugin is automatically installed on all pages.
I have recently learned of this plug in, and liked the idea so I’ve added it to my blog. I then had an idea to base a site on keyword luv itself to ‘share the luv’ when someone adds a nice comment. Seeing the above testimonial of page rank is extra reassuring for me, as I’m relatively new to the world of blogging and sites, though I am thoroughly enjoying it! Nice post.

I agree, Bob - everyone wins; so why not?
I came across your blog when doing a search for do-follow blogs to comment on. I read several of your posts already, and the one regarding keywordluv, in detail. I’ve read a lot of pro and con regarding this commenting method and am still a bit confused. I know that it is a great benefit for the one making the comment because if you approve my comment, I get a link back to my site. I know that as a website owner, you will most likely have more individuals commenting, but aren’t you passing along a lot of “link juice” to others? I see that this page, and your home page, even with all of the comments, have a nice Google PR. Are you saying that Google still loves you even though you pass a lot of link juice, or because you do? Also, does the Thesis theme allow dofollow links? I have my site on Thesis and haven’t really read any details much. Sorry for a long post & rambling, but I would really appreciate your assistance here. Thanks a lot.
Gustav invites you to read: Takamine G320
No problem, Gustav; always ready to help.
In regards to commenting: whether you use KeywordLuv or not, you are still giving your commentator a link back to their blog, right? KeywordLuv just helps your commentators to get more benefit from that link, i.e. their keywords in the link.
Many bloggers don’t like their commentators to use keywords in the “name” field, but I understand the value of link building and anchor text; that’s why I, among thousands of other bloggers choose to use KL on this blog.
And you are correct: not only do I give away keywordLuv links, but also use CommentLuv, and still have a nice PR.
Yes, you can set all your links to DOfollow in Thesis under “Thesis ==> Site Options”, but first you need to install a dofollow plugin, since Wordpress is nofollow by default. Just look for a dofollow plugin in your WP plugin directory.
Thanks for the info and you convinced me. I just added the Nofollow Free and Keywordluv plugins to this site. It makes sense to do it and I’m hoping that it will encourage a lot of comments. I never worry about spam too much as the spam button to delete is right there.

david invites you to read: Sell Textbooks
Glad you found me, David, and the answer is no.
KeywordLuv does encourage comments, but it doesn’t mean that you’ll have that many more commentators swarming your blog - it’s always proportionate to the traffic you get.
I’ve been around for long enough to see things come and go and for the moment at least KeywordLuv seems to work well. I expect in time Mr G will detect KeywordLuv and apply a formula to downgrade the value of links where the keywords have little to do with the topic of the page.
The sooner Google does this the safer blogs will be from becoming glorified link farms.
I was tempted to be Chris@Branded USB but seing the topic of this page, today I am Chris.
My Branded USB Promo website has very few links and needs a bit of juice but that website scores very well with on-site factors which one of the recent Panda updates loved. So a web design that gives Google good user-behaviour statistics is a sound bedrock. Then those links will have a greater impact.
The fact that I am leaving a comment means hurray for KeywordLuv so thanks for your excellent blog.
KeywordLuv has been around for years, Chris.
If and when blog commenting links will be completely discounted, it’ll go for all the links, not just KeywordLuv.
Thanks for coming by.
I never knew this before, KeywordLuv also takes a big role in SEO. Sometimes, when commenting, I prefer to find sites that are commenluv enabled but this post totally realize me that KeywordLuv is also important. Thanks for the info.

Ana, thanks for bringing up the topic about the value of utilizing KW Luv and do follow links! When searching for various topics, I always look for Keyword Luv and dofollow links before commenting, but it’s not the only qualifier. I must first have an interest in the topic and the ability to contribute to the conversation so the comments are never mistaken as spam and to hopefully add value. I think it separates the better blogs from the rest.

Ana | Traffic Generation invites you to read: Google Plus Social Network: Is It Worth its Salt and Your Time?
Argie it has been my experience with many sites that nofollow do count towards your overall SEO. I have several sites where I have only one nofollow PR5 and a say a few hundred PR0 and within 6 months my site has a PR4. Now I used Spyglass to completely reverse engineer my own backlinks in addition to using other tools. Further more, anchor text does not seem to be as big of factor as most would have you believe, again my own experience. Bottom line dofollow and anchor text are way over rated don’t get me wrong I if I have a choice I will always select dofollow with anchor but I never discount a nofollow with no anchor text… hope that helps..

Keyword is a great plugin. I just recently came across this term a few moments ago and the idea behind it is so awesome. Everyone wins with Keywordluv.
I couldn’t agree more
The comments that come from keywordluv are a great way to spread some valuable link juice around the net but I am sure that google will eventually devalue the links based on keywordluv and the high amount of outbound links on most of the blogs that use the plug in.
If that ever happens, Brad, then it would be all commenting links, not just KeywordLuv links.
I agree with you, I have had the same.
Yeah I agree that this is really a beutiful solution for both blog owners and commentators as I, too do not like to reply to comments where I have to say “Hi home insurance” to adress the commentor …

Lol! I know what you mean, Bruno.
The plugin has some great perks, it’s a really great concept. My only concern that I wonder how long it will be before Google devalues links coming via blogs using this plugin.
Since it’s a commenting plugin and comment links are already not as highly valued by Google, I’d say it’s already started.
However, blog commenting is still the easiest way to obtain links, they are here to stay, and KeywordLuv is definitely very helpful from that point of view.
I’m not sure what you mean by “here to stay”; Google has stated often, they are devaluing comment links more each day.

Dennis Edell invites you to read: Excuse Please, May I Have an Anchor with that Link?
In my opinion, the comment section of a blog is there to enable communication between people. Of course, the conversation should be meaningful and about the topic of the post. Allowing readers to leave backlinks is, in a way, rewarding them for their comments (backlinks being the new currency of the web). For me, as a webmaster, it is important that people leave valuable comments. If they do, I am happy to provide them with some link luv even if the website they are promoting is in a different niche. I feel this is important to encourage an open discussion.
On the same topic I find it difficult to understand why some webmasters (not you Ana) use keywordluv but make the links NoFollow? Either you want to reward peoplewith link luv or you do not, right?
Allan invites you to read: Nikon Coolpix P7000 Review
Hi Allan. Yes, I agree with your sentiments on open communication.
Regarding the NoFollow - many bloggers (including myself) reward commenters by making their links do-follow after they have 3 approved -comments. The reason for this is to not give linkluv for one-time visitors.

What’s your recommendation on the number of CommentLuv links to be built on a monthly basis? Also, does it make a difference if keywords are placed on irrelevant blogs even though you are engaging with blogger and etc? Also, is there a method to find a group of sites using commentLuv ?
Hi, Lisa: the more, the better.
But seriously, how many blogs can you possibly and reasonably comment on on a daily basis? 40-50? That’s absolutely fine.
Relevant sites are much better, plus what’s the point of engaging with a blogger if he/she are from a completely different niche and probably won’t have much interest in what you have to offer?
However, another consideration: if you are building links to a niche site, like the one you listed in your comment website, then things are much simpler: it’s hard to find blogs in your niche and it’s much easier to rank on Google, so go ahead and comment on not-so-relevant blogs.
How to find CommentLuv blogs: here’s a nice size list to start: http://www.netchunks.com/huge-list-of-400-dofollow-commentluv-blogs/.
Also, try to type this simple command in the Google search box: site:.com +commentluv
Most of the sites listed will have CommentLuv installed.
it was fun reading the other comments in this post. Yes, blog commenting through keywordluv only gets a little juice from Google, most especially when you place comments like “Great Post!” (because mostly these kinds of comments never get approved by the webmasters or deleted)..I just wonder though, why do other bloggers prefer a dofollow link on their blogs and not just use the nofollow default? Is it only because of traffic?
Most bloggers still believe that a dofollow link carries a higher value, Glen, which is true most of the times.
So if you have a dofollow blog, it naturally encourages engagement, which in turn encourages community development and direct traffic building. I just wrote a post about direct traffic, take a look: https://trafficgenerationcafe.online/targeted-website-traffic-direct-traffic/
yes, you’re right. looks like a “domino effect” to me. it all goes back to the real essence of blogging which is having to provide information and reach out a certain community or a group. anyway thanks for answering the question.. gotta read the link you provided too.
I’ve never tested using Keyword Luv on my blog before, so decided to install and see if there are any differences in the level of engagement and interaction.

Hi Anna, interesting post of yours, I found it through google results when I typed “Keywordluv can get you rank on google” and it came up first. Anyway, I’ve started a second site which I now promote exclusively through commenting in comluv and keywordluv blogs. I ‘ve done more than 1400 comments for this site in 400 blogs, mostly DoFollows, the last 2 months but I only achieved few results.
My first blog (VeryBestSoftware) ranks first page for my basic products keywords and I had promoted it through guest posting. (around 70 guest posts the past 6 months). Each guest article would give me 2 backlinks through certain keywords I wanted to rank for.
What I am trying to figure out is how much Google values backlinks from comments and backlinks from quality and related articles. Any idea?
Steven invites you to read: Renew Life Coupon Code
Just goes to prove the point that we never truly know which keywords will bring us traffic until we see them in action - welcome to my blog, Steven.
Blog commenting links, although definitely have some value - depending of where they are coming from, of course, don’t carry as much weight any longer since they are so easily abused by spammers.
However, it’s still a viable way to build links and I wouldn’t give up on it.
Guest posting is great though, especially over time, once your guest posts will hopefully gain authority with age and links. I would say you are doing great at 70 posts in 6 months; I wish most of my readers took it that seriously.
Now you didn’t mention in your comment whether you are referring to results in increased traffic or search engine rankings - a little bit of both won’t hurt, I bet. I’d say you need to take a look at your guest posts to see which ones brought you the most traffic and post some more posts to those blogs.
thanks for answering Ana. Two weeks I saw a dramatic (almost unexplained!) increase in traffic from Google in my VeryBestSoftware.Net blog. It was upgraded to PR3 and a flow of visitors started pouring in overnight(17th of June) from search engines, especially Google. It’s exactly what I was struggling for; earn visitors who look for specific keyword phrases. To be honest, visitors from referring sites usually increase my bounce rate but visitors from search engines stay more, navigate and have a high conversion rate as they are the only ones who may become customers eventually. I had paused my guest posting crusade in May through which I was promoting my blog, because I was starting my new coupon site. Now I’ve taken a vast courage from this advancement as I am earning a full time income from affiliate commissions and I am starting guest posting again. I was praying for this a long time ago and I m not ashamed to confess this. God gave me a chance to work exclusively online through affiliate marketing and now it works wonderfully (after a lot of persistence and patience…).

I use commentluv on one of my other blogs and I do good. I’ve had close to 400 spammers try to post, but akismet stopped them all. Spammers will usually post some kind of generic post that has no meaning to it or it doesn’t compliment the article.
Yes, that’s what they do. They can be quite crafty at times though, so you have to go through each post and not do a bulk approve.

Of course, one thing you will always look while blog commenting is that the comment is related to the article at hand. You do not want to raise red flags for spamming another article just to improve the optimization of your Internet search engine. You have to actual practice. If the comment is not related to the topic, you will not only get flagged but you will also confuse those who may have a propensity to visit your site. What spam does irritate visitors to view your site and make sure you become something of a pariah in the community of bloggers.
That’s quite right. Your keywords must not be spammy and your comment must be relevant to the post at hand. When I get spam, I simply delete it.
Content is content, Google rewards sites with unique content. Thus when many people comment on a post I have made that helps with the site ranking.
That’s right. The key is to create content that users will find interesting and unique in order for them to comment on.
I have never thought greatly about commenting on keywordluv and commentluv enabled sites. Your post makes of think to form a proper strategy for commenting on blogs. But for me commenting is about building relationships and traffic than backlinks.
That’s correct. That is why I only comment regularly on the sites of a select few contacts.
KeywordLuv can make a very big different in the number of comment you receive, so I think that a blogger can also take some time to review the comment

I was getting tired of getting backlinks with my name as anchor text. Not that they don’t have value, but I’d rather rank for some keywords that I target.
KeywordLuv and CommentLuv are the best plugins for rewarding people who visit your website and take the time to write decent comments. This strategy seems to be working beautifully for you by the way, considering the number of people leaving comments here.
Thank you,
Haydn

That is really cool Ana. I never thought keywordluv could help you as well as your commentators. I mean, its a great way to reward your commentators,. The only problem is that spammers just make it so hard to use plugins like keywordluv and commentluv, but non the less, both re great plugins.

Thanks ana. I am also thinking to install keywordluv plugin to my blog
Keywordluv is fantastic. It allows people to get the backlinks they need to their webpages. It is very rewarding also, as it makes people want to contribute more and everyone wins! I think it is important to moderate all comments for spam! I have seen there is a plugin called the ‘Anti Spambot plugin’ I haven’t used it myself yet though, but it is supposed to stop all them spammy comments! After all we don’t want them ruining it for everyone else!!
I use GASP plugin on this site for spam control; works like a charm.

One thing I like about your comments section is that the keyword links to a new page where that particular comment appears like a post with all the other comments below and I would like to know if this is done using the same KeywordLuv plugin. I see this as beneficial to the blog owner because it means that for every comment, you have an extra page indexed wink* wink*. This is why blogs with this plugin have thousands of indexed pages though they have only a few hundred posts.
I don’t quite agree with the statement: “Reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text.” because the stand-alone keyword links to an inner page and from this inner page (explained above), the link to the commenter’s website is in the format name@keyword instead of just the keyword.
I believe that even though this KeywordLuv is touted as beneficial to the commenters, in the end, it is the blog owner that benefits from putting it on their blog.
Since this post, Maky, I actually disabled KeywordLuv and wrote a post about the plugin I use to create dynamic pages for my commentators. Not sure if you saw it; here the link: https://trafficgenerationcafe.online/dofollow-nofollow-link/

Great to know that keywordluv can improve someone’s page ranking and promotes more user interaction. Since all the comment link are dofollow, don’t you think too much outgoing link will affect the page rank ? My page rank is 2 and if I install keywork luv plugin does it going to harm my page rank ?

So KeywordLuv is a great plugin to rank for others people keywords, lol just kidding.
The plugin is indeed great for both the blogger and the commenter.
First like you said, it makes your comments look less spammy by making your commenters attach a name to their keyword, while also helping them with the keyword rich anchor they get.
In your case is a smart choice of 2 plugins

Now I guess that is another lesson for a blogger - create a website with keywords in the name. Only then you’ll be able to rank high on search engines and also make use of a plugin such as KeywordLuv.
The website that I have been using here while contributing my comments is not keyword targeted - it is kind of talking about whatever catches my fancy. Hence the name “Random Raves & Rants of Sanjeev”. Now they are not really keywords that one will search for on the net!
Another thing that I learnt here is using @ between my name and the “keywords”. All my earlier comments carried only my name and not keywords. This time I typed @ and then name of my site to see what happens. So kind of testing. Next time I’ll only use my name without @ because the second half is not really keywords in my case.
But maybe before I cast that resolve in stone, let me just try and see what happens if I search for random raves & rants - wow! my blog is ranked 5th (out of 725000 pages). I tried another thing - I removed the “random” and just searched for “raves & rants” and found that my site is ranked 42nd (out of 3.3 million pages). So a long way to go. But I also found that I am not the only one raving and ranting! There are many others with domains that are a variation of raves and rants!!
So maybe I’ll continue to write my name as Sanjeev Sharma @ Random Raves & Rants of Sanjeev!
I’d also like to tell you that I installed the keywordLuv plugin on my blog as well, after noticing that it is used here. (This is also my way of telling all your readers that they MUST visit my blog and leave a comment there! All comment links there are do follow!! And if not today, tomorrow it will help them a little bit!!)
Sanjeev Sharma invites you to read: Will Guest Control At Parties Reduce Food Shortage
Definitely, sounds like a great blog to visit, Sanjeev, for anyone in the mood for rants.
It’s nice to be ranked for keywords - any keywords, but as you said it yourself, if no one is searching for those keywords, what’s the point?
I would definitely dig into your site a bit deeper and see if you can find some article that people do want to know about, optimize them and see if you can rank them.
Sounds like a fun challenge to me!
Thanks Ana. It would be nice to have you see if there is an article on my blog that people would like to know about, optimize it and see if it can be ranked.
And sure enough it will be one big challenge because I am certain that my blog will score a big ZERO on SEO.
I was first going to send this message as an email and not as a comment here but then decided otherwise because I have a query which may be of use to your readers. The question arose from your reply that mentions about optimizing an article on my blog for ranking. The question is:
I would think that most articles on my blog are indexed by search engines - for good or bad - whatever, based on the keywords and other SEO parameters. Now, is it possible to rewrite and optimize the same article in such a way that after updating, it will get better SEO score on the search engine score cards? So dose it mean that every time a search engines indexes an article, it re-reads the SEO parameters?
I hope I have been to communicate my question properly.

KeywordLuv isn’t as prevalent on pro bloggers’ sites as I would have though they’d be. It’s a little surprising, considering that this group above all is all about improving SEO not only for themselves but for their commentators.

Delena
Delena Silverfox invites you to read: Eleven2 Promotional Code

Yes but your Comments do not link to the chosen URL specified, you have them redirected to a page for the commentator, thus negating the link love.
Surely this is why you ranked when Lisa should have, because the anchor text (ie the optimised keyword) was in fact pointing internally at this site.
I know you explained this to me once, but I am still confused. I mean I look at the hyperlinked text and yes it is the keyword but its not pointing to the site?!?
Am I the only one bothered by this - or who even notices it?
Clarify this for me and the readers please Ana, my brain hurts thinking about it.
I have personally removed Keyword Luv and do follow attributes from my blog because its the best way of weeding out those who haven’t really got anything to say.
(I also lost PR and between you and me, its an experiment in link juice)
Alex Whalley invites you to read: 7 Reasons Why Your Article Titles Suck!
OK, here we go.
You are right, Alex (hear round of applause?
You correctly noticed that in my particular case, KeywordLuv doesn’t do much good. HOWEVER, I still like to use it to “humanify” the comments - I hate seeing keywords instead of real names. This way I still get both.
The plugin I use, SEO Super Comments, does resolve exactly the PR leakage issue you are talking about. It directs all the commentator’s links to a dynamically created page and THEN goes out to their website with their keyword in it.
So instead of each comment leaking authority from my blog, I direct it all to one page and that one page has a dofollow link out.
Does it make sense?
I’ll kill myself if you ask this one more time!

Ana invites you to read: How To Write Titles With Teeth
Dont kill yourself yet …i’m still waiting to hear how you fixed the indexing issue :p
Though chipping i; the plus side of SSC is that it garners ‘authority’ for all the comments the user makes, thus making their ‘comment page’ a power powerful backlink to them, as their comments interlink making the ‘juice’ flow to their comments. So a more frequent commenter get a better ‘reward’ from their activities.
Plus side for host is that the comments can start to rank and provide extra traffic. Sometimes untargeted yes but the extra backlinks to the ‘mother’ post also help it a bit as well.

I can see the benefits of the KeywordLuv, I already have CommentLuv, why would I need a DoFollow plug-in? How do you judge the spamming behavior? If I am a regular reader of your website/blog, then I will definitely comment at every post and through that, I will share my views about your ideas and posts.
But why will you remove my url? You should not delete URL of your regular reader. This is really not fair.
Ellen, I define spam as comments that are unrelated to the topic. Commenters have the ability to use keywordluv and commentluv on my site, as well as the “promote yourself” post. Therefore, I will remove links from comments of other posts, unless it is relevant.
