I have been active on Blogengage for about a month. I joined Blokube last week after a referral from a post Lisa wrote (She is Friendly!lol)
They are both excellent, I am going to limit myself to those two, it gets watered down otherwise.
I like the fact you can get yourself noticed and also find loads of top quality content to go comment on, how cool is that.

Yes, I am also involved on Bizsugar and BlogEngage, but as you can imagine time is precious and we all have to choose where we hand out the most.
I like SERPd and Blokube because they are new and it’s easy to position yourself as a power user, and that’s a great place to be!

I use both SERPD and Blokube. My presence is not even close to most of the users their but I’m slowly seeing more light. I’ve gotten visitors and comments coming from both social network. We’re lucky that we have so much varieties to promote our content.

Unfortunately, I have not been having a great experience with SERPd. I have once submitted my URL but now I keep getting an error message: “Sorry, your last post was from that domain, too”. And I’m submitting other blog post links OK. So, I haven’t been active there
I have recently joined Blokube and I’m loving it there. The exposure is great and I’m now networking with top bloggers and discovering other good blogs.

Have you ever been to a party and there is “that guy” that only talks about himself and doesn’t listen to others. This guy just going on and on and on……
Well most people tend to lose interest in that guy (and he doesn’t have a girlfriend) because he isn’t interested what others have to say.
Well the same concept applies to social communities. If you don’t have anything to bring to the table other than your own domain over and over and over then people are gong to lose interest in your message and you aren’t really adding value to the community when your sole purpose is to only promote your site.
Try promoting others a bit and you may be surprised at what kind of results you see from that kind of contribution.

So, these look like vertical news aggregators with voting. Similar to Digg, Reddit or Slashdot, but focused on SEO, traffic generation and online marketing.

2 interesting blogging related resources. Does one have to be a regular contributor at SERPd.com in order to get connected with the experts or just a normal user?
Hard to tell, Andreas - you can vote on their posts, but I don’t think you’ll get too far with it like that.
Here are some ways:
1. You submit awesome article that make to the front page or even a weekly roundup that I publish for SERPd. You’ll get good exposure when that happens and it’s not that difficult.
2. I would visit the blogs of some power users and start making comments letting them know you came via SERPd. Once they see you on the site, they’ll start recognizing your name and checking out your posts.
Since both of these sites are so fairly new, getting noticed doesn’t take a tremendous effort, but effort nonetheless.

I want to keep this short because the less I speak the more I can usually say
Ana, you are the example that needed to be given. For too long I have watched the blogging world stagnate and cluster helplessly around problogger and the like, waiting for guidance and wondering ‘when is my time?’
Then you arrived, and with your presence you reminded us that blogging is and of itself all about networking and sharing, and following those who have already moved onto greener pastures seems futile - at least now that you have opened the door to the obvious!
Ok that’s a lot of words, but I just wanted to share my deepest respect for you as a networker, a blogger, and most importantly - a real human being.
Keep on doing whatever it is that you do Ana - it’s much nicer around here now

I recently joined Blokube too, there’s a lot of great content in there, I hope it will grow and thrive. Serp’d I have yet to check out but your ‘thumbs up’ is usually worth something so I’ll make time to have a look…
The other bonus for lesser used networking sites, industry related or not, is that there is less competition there, if you can establish yourself as an active member and authority in your niche, it can really work in your favor…

I didn’t say “give up” on it, Staci - I still very successfully use it on a daily basis. It’s hard to build good relationships there though.
I ran into Blokube yesterday and reading more about it. If we’re into the traffic and the quantity of people using the internet, it would be wise to stay on the SN giant sites but we can also make time for the 2 new sites if we would like to build our blogger network. All option will be good just make sure we have time for them.
Not only can, but SHOULD make time for them, Allie - if we want to be noticed that is.

Not exactly sure what you meant there by not high quality lol. Just by virtue being do follow a SERPd link is already a higher quality link than the majority of social sites on the web because most of them are no-follow. i.e. Mixx, Digg,StumbleUPon etc. Of course getting a link is not the primary purpose someone should be interested in SERPd. As you mention definitely it’s about networking and discovering quality content.
However if the content submitted is about SEO, blogging or internet marketing then the relevancy is also very high.
So I would consider the link coming from SERPd extremely high quality as long as the content is relevant.
If you’re speaking about domain authority that will of course come in time. As you know we are only about 4 months old at the moment.

Here’s what I meant about not-so-high quality links.
They are dofollow, yes, but there is not much authority SERPd can pass to other sites… just yet. Most of the links come from deeply buried pages that will probably never incur any authority of their own.
Nonetheless, link building should not be the most prominent reason to become a part of SERPd; I am sure you’ll agree with that.

Ana, thanks for mentioning SERPd in your post here.
I agree that niche sites can really help build your reputation since you are able to get your content in front of your industry peers. The more involved you get in communities where your peers frequent, the more of an authority you will begin to become in your field!
By engaging with others in your industry you will make new friends, broaden your network of support, gain additional readers, and ultimately gain more information that will make you better at what you do.
Regarding the issue of whether a link from SERPd is high quality or not… I suppose that will depend on your definition of high quality. Many in the blogging world still equate PageRank with authority or quality when it is widely known to be an outdated factor. If you judge a site by it’s PageRank then indeed SERPd is still low quality since it has not been allocated PageRank as yet. I would caution you to do some reading about PageRank and why you may not want to use it as an indicator of quality however.
An important quote from a Google Employee:
On October 15, 2009, Google employee Susan Moskwa confirmed that the company had removed PageRank from its Webmaster Tools section. Her post said in part, “We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true.
If you view a quality link as I do…
It is a link from a cached page in Google on a site that is bing crawled very actively by Google. There should be less than 20 outbound links on the page your page appears on and no “no follow” attribute tied to the link. By my definition that makes a link from SERPd a high quality link.
The comment about links being on buried inner pages is a valid one. I would point out that the most popular stories are always on the home page and a backlink is only one click from the home page at all times.
In addition… because our site is crawled so actively by search engines, stories that are submitted often show up on page one for terms that your story may rank for. This drives more traffic to your site in addition to the normal traffic the site delivers form it’s users directly. This also adds value to using a niche site like the ones you mentioned in your post.
I think it’s great that bloggers are using SERPd and not just SEO people because they will be exposed to a lot of new ideas about their websites and how to improve their performance that they wouldn’t get from hanging out around only other bloggers. This is one of the reasons that we fight so hard to get the hard core SEO people to be more accepting of entry level SEO content, because we truly believe that this content is great for people that are just getting their feet wet in SEO.
My hope is that the blogging community becomes even more active on SERPd as I really think it can help them add value to what they do for a living!

Ive recently learned about these two services (serpd and blokube) from Murray Lunn and Lisa (friendly blogger) respectively. Ive incorporated serpd into my digg digg social share, but havent done it for blokube yet.
I appreciated a quick and clear overview of both. Also, I had few requests for guest posts when I first launch my site from small but established bloggers..weird, huh? I think its the cool looking woothemes theme that made my blog look all mature and shit lol

The sites that you mention and others like them, are such great sources for networking as the communities are STRONG. They’re also great hubs for interesting articles.
Social media comes down to engaging and interacting and sources like the ones you mention actually have a greater impact in the end since it’s a bit more focused and the interaction can have a greater effect (affect?…oh, spelling, you slay me).
