Hi Andrew,

I do agree with the idea of outsourcing the marketing side of blog posts, especially through Social media, given that it does require a lot time and it’s also important to be consistent with it.

I’m already looking into product creation, thanks for the push, I might get into it sooner than expected :)

Great post! Thanks for the specific tips - I used some of them today as I’m training a company about blogging, SEO, and Social media strategies.

Questions on #8 and #9: what’s the best way to find those specific sites. Is it something like “your keyword phrase” “comment luv” or “your keyword phrase” “recent comments plugin” or…?

This may sound like a no-brainer question but I’m curious if there’s a better way.

Thanks!

Great info Jason.

You have to step up your/our game if we want to stay on top and this techniques if used properly and timed right can boost your rank. For example if you have a few months old blog and you are linking to some great blogger you will most likely be ignored.
As a young blogger you should start your networking with bloggers like you that have just started or not yet affected by the laurels of their glory.

Backtracing your opponents backlinks is usually good for normal website and less for bloggers, because bloggers usually get all their links through mentions, guests posts and blogroll. And this is heavily influenced by the articles they write but it can be used to gain some links that matter.

Also, using the recent Comments plugin is a temporary solution and there is a need to build links in order to maintain the rankings you might have obtained through this strategy.

Great cheat sheet, Jason!

I agree with Ana - I’m now linking to posts NOT to the home page, to get noticed by the bloggers I’m linking to.

I don’t really have a set plan for link building. Different content requires different methods.
Depending on your keywords, some require a lot more work, and also a bit more aggressive tactics (not black hat, we’ve moved on from that)
Link building can get time consuming if you let it. Although some daily tasks can really help to boost your blog posts rankings.

Hi Hector,

You’re on the right track man, guest posting is the one method that I see that provides a lot of advantages, which offers stronger links as you have full control of the content to make it more relevant to your targeted search phrase (really great in improving search rankings). As to commenting on blogs, I suggest that you direct it to other pages on your site (your about page is the best landing page for it), to improve deep linking :)

Hello Jason,

This is most impressive article, I and my friends are thinking for a website and we didn’t covered all these these bullet points in our mind. Very soon we are going to launch it. This article really inspired me.

Well, I am absolutely agree with you said we need to optimize for long tail keyword. Why it is right I ever heard and it really works for lead generation. Traffic from long tail keywords comes which exactly we target. Short and completive keywords take too much time to get visible in top of SERP.

I am little bit confused should we really do external article submission? like in ezine or webpronews. I heard it also work for good traffic generation.

Thanks

kaiserthesage kaiserthesage.com January 31, 2011 at 7:41 pm

The best thing about longtail keywords is that it can really generate highly targeted traffic, which makes it much easier for you to sell as well as to rank on SERPs.

Article marketing/submissions is very effective, and I’ve used that technique on some of my previous campaigns, though it really depends on your site’s goals. But if I were to choose, I’d be spending more time with writing more content on for my site/blog and focus more with guest blogging (but has far more advantages than article submission).

I love saying that i agree and I like the post :) But this time I will only say I like it and disagree with a thing or two.

I am very surprised about you saying that we should optimize for long tail keywords.

I have a website with thousands of visitors and I have never optimized for long tail. They come by themselves. I write a page for a searched keyword and the long tail is the result of my writing.

I just think if we would optimize for a long tail it would make the writing more difficult and sometimes even weird. Including a “how to” in a body content is OK, when it makes sense, but optimizing for a long tail is something I would not really bother with.

There are so many long tail for the word “link building” that there is no way you can optimize for them. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be found for them. Any part of the sentence in your post can end up being a long tail that will bring you traffic.

When it comes to getting attention of some bigger blogs, I do need to say that I have noticed that most of them don’t care. Yes, Most of them don’t care!

They don’t have trackbacks/pingbacks turned on. They don’t approve them, so many of those links you are hoping for are not gonna be there.

Some of them won’t care if you mention them a billion times, in a blog post or on Twitter.

You have mention some great points there Brankica, and I definitely agree with what you have pointed out when it comes to getting the “pros” attention. The best way to really make it out there, sometimes, is to really have your own identity in your chosen niche, since this way, influential people around your industry will get to notice you through what you are offering to the community.

With regards to optimizing your blog/site for long tail keywords, what I really like about this strategy is that it doesn’t need that much of off-page optimization/link building, by just using your long tail keywords as the title of the post and having the content strictly about the long tail keyword can get it rank higher on SERPs for its relevance. Of course, you still need your main keywords to be optimized, but to really improve your site’s traffic generation campaign, it’s always a great move to diversify your traffic magnet.

Jason

I gotta say, a lot of people may knock establishing your brand through forums, but it really, really works. I used this technique way back in the day of 2001 and it worked like a charm. My site ranked and I was known as the ‘go to gal’ for my niche.

It can take a bit of effort to become an expert on a forum. I guess anything in this crazy internet world takes a bit of effort, though. :)

Hi Morgan,

True! It’s really a great way to drive relevant traffic. It does take some time before you can establish your brand through forums, though if you really know how things work in your niche, it’s much easier to grab people’s attention from forums. Spending 30 minutes a day participating - adding real value to discussions and answering questions on forum sites will help drive interested visitors to your site.
