I am building up my following, almost 5000 atm, and it results in around 500 visits to my blog per month so definitely potential to monetize that traffic source.

Thanks for the post Harris, and thanks Ana for posting it here so I could get my coffee AND learn a thing or two about the little blue bird

    Great Post Ana!
And a fantastic way to continue the series.
I think you touch on some very good aspects to social engagement and creating the proof that comes with it. I especially like your Blog comment Tribe point, because something that I found worked when I started my blog was to engage and comment on other quiet blogs, this way I was noticed and they came and commented back - kind of in line with what you had in mind.

I used blog commenting and guest posting to build my presence online, but regardless of how you do it - I think you have covered the where and more importantly, the why really well!

Thanks again for bringing your awesomeness to the table Ana, have a fantastic Christmas.

So how many tweets is to many?

Reply

Ana from Traffic Generation Cafe trafficgenerationcafe.com September 23, 2010 at 8:57 pm

When you start getting angry messages and start loosing followers much quicker than you are gaining them, then you’ll know. :)

On a more serious note, Ray, I would stick to no more than 20-25 tweets per day, only about 25% of them are your own content.

Welcome to my blog!

It seems that Twitter is the biggest thing around now.Twitter this,Twitter that.
I must have around 5,000 followers and I haven’t a clue about how to get in touch with them all!

Great points about Twitter. I have been on twitter for a long time, slowly gaining followers and followees, but I really haven’t “done much” with it.

I do like your ideas though, personally I have always been offput but too many of the self serving adds on twitter. The zen-like approach of the way to make money is not to try to make money is a great one!

My opinion on ANY marketing strategy out there is learn how to do it well or don’t waste your time doing it at all.

And that’s exactly what I did with Twitter. Love reaping the results!

Thanks, Steve!

Hi Ana,

Wow I did’nt know the fact for you that Twitter bring the most people to your blog. It seem that your course on Twitter works very well, nice for you!!

I agree on the fact that with Twitter it’s hard to get the attention of others… We only submit a little Sentence and we have to wake attention of all of our followers and them to retweet it… Not very easy task…

Thanks

A specific resource that can make you realistic cash (if you have a relevant/quality number of followers) with twitter is fiverr.com, for example you could offer to tweet X times on twitter for 5$.

I firmly believe that any traffic can be monetize, it’s just a matter of picking the right approach. I personally funnel all traffic through my blog and take it from there.

I think you take the same approach, Alex.

Great analogies woven in here and the point is so true.

I experimented with promoting affiliate links on Twitter some time ago. My conclusion was that you’ll get some clicks, but people won’t often buy because it’s too much of a jump from Twitter to the capture or sales page. A bit like approaching someone on a busy street and trying to sell them something.

Far better to build more rapport and connection and share more value by inviting them to your blog first, as you are doing Ana.

You are right, Jym; you’ve got to bridge the gap between Twitter and a sales page and your blog is perfect for that.

Wow, Harris, really nice tip! I think most bloggers need to build a solid number of followers and provide value to them first before he can promote any offer or tell people to click on the link and visit his blog. There are also many other ways to monetize through Twitter as well as Pay for Tweet, CPA, etc.

Now that is a great testimonial for Harris you gave.

So many twitterer’s have links that go directly to sales pages and I always wonder “does that work?”

Wow, most of your blog traffic comes from twitter, good for you.

Twitter happened to be the first strategy I learn to generate traffic and got quite good at it (pretty much followed Harris’ course).

I don’t use it as a direct money making mechanism of any kind, strictly for traffic. However, many of my tweets do end up on my list, so monetizing that way is not out of question. :)

Thanks, Peter!

Hi Harris,

Thanks for sharing the on the money summation.

Yes, well said about the New York rush hour. I liken twitter to the Wild West of social media.

To make money on twitter, don’t try to make money on twitter. It sounds like a Zen koan, but it’s true. Trying to make money leads to silly, competitive marketing practices which shoot you in the foot and turn off your followers.

Offer value, build a network and cross promote. Toss in the pitch tweets sparingly and you can prosper.
