Wow, Harris, really nice tip! I think most bloggers need to build a solid number of followers and provide value to them first before he can promote any offer or tell people to click on the link and visit his blog. There are also many other ways to monetize through Twitter as well as Pay for Tweet, CPA, etc.

  • Blog vs Website Faceoff: 8 Simple Reasons for Why Blogs Kick Ass
Very entertaining and persuading article, Ingrid :) One point I would like to make comment companies lack of resources to set up a blog, and although their web masters know about the advantages of blog, it’s hard to set up one as well.

One of the reason is corporates don’t have voice. Unlike a blog, where you can personally voice your own opinions and although it may be a weird one, that’s ok. However, with a corporate blog, you’re really representing a whole company. That’s hard! Google and Starbucks are the few which maintain a good blog on all of its products today. Google has a development team to blog while Starbucks allow its employees to share their thoughts on the blog.

Several small companies also find its hard to know about online marketing and SEO. Most start-up companies have to hire SEO firm in order to consult them about online advertising.

But, if I opens a company, I will surely add a blog to it. :)

  • Make Money Blogging: a Dollar Saved Is a Dollar Made
I love MPB deals, but the thing is I already broke in this Christmas, so I was really sad to see this deal is passing by (and another deal that I love is Only72.com).

I agree the most important point in making money online is to educate yourself. You can either buy courses or books online, and they are going to take you a while. Or you can hire coaching to coach you online. I believe the second method is better but it’s really expensive :) The last cheapest thing people must to do is: read trafficgenerationcafe.com for awesome tips to make money online :)

  • Why Plugins Can’t Help You to Rank Better and What You Can Do About It
Long time no see, Julius! Another great article that I see! I agree with you that although with some powerful tools in hand, people may not know how to best utilize them because they may lack of experience in SEO. One more reason is they don’t read the manual or the manual doesn’t do a very good job in instructing people on how to do it. What do you think?
  • Why Google PageRank Could Be a Thing of the Past
    Hi Doc,

Interesting post! I saw some people say on the forums that the toolbar PR was updated around August-September, but I didn’t see any changes to my blog so I assumed it was not happened. I didn’t know the official update was in April. That’s such a long time.

But I don’t care about toolbar PR much. I only care about the rank of keywords and that’s certainly my main worry. I feel that the way search engines are performing searches right now is still ok because it judges the relevance of the content as well as the popularity of it. Links are still important in the future, I predict. The only thing that Google will need to work on is including expert article in the search engines.

As you can see now, it’s quite easy to manipulate the search results with link building. Some results may contain good information on the topic. Some may contain biased and tricky information that is almost garbage to users. In the mean time, articles written by expert often not found by search engines because these articles aren’t optimized for SEO properly. So, I think it’s one of the problem that search engines need to solve right now, at least.

So how many tweets is to many?

Ana from Traffic Generation Cafe trafficgenerationcafe.com September 23, 2010 at 8:57 pm

When you start getting angry messages and start loosing followers much quicker than you are gaining them, then you’ll know. :)

On a more serious note, Ray, I would stick to no more than 20-25 tweets per day, only about 25% of them are your own content.

Welcome to my blog!

It seems that Twitter is the biggest thing around now.Twitter this,Twitter that.
I must have around 5,000 followers and I haven’t a clue about how to get in touch with them all!

Great points about Twitter. I have been on twitter for a long time, slowly gaining followers and followees, but I really haven’t “done much” with it.

I do like your ideas though, personally I have always been offput but too many of the self serving adds on twitter. The zen-like approach of the way to make money is not to try to make money is a great one!

My opinion on ANY marketing strategy out there is learn how to do it well or don’t waste your time doing it at all.

And that’s exactly what I did with Twitter. Love reaping the results!

Thanks, Steve!

Hi Ana,

Wow I did’nt know the fact for you that Twitter bring the most people to your blog. It seem that your course on Twitter works very well, nice for you!!

I agree on the fact that with Twitter it’s hard to get the attention of others… We only submit a little Sentence and we have to wake attention of all of our followers and them to retweet it… Not very easy task…

Thanks

You are very right, Andreas; that’s a great way to make money on Twitter!

A specific resource that can make you realistic cash (if you have a relevant/quality number of followers) with twitter is fiverr.com, for example you could offer to tweet X times on twitter for 5$.

I never really thought about monetizing twitter but Harris does make some good points here. Clearly providing value first has got to be key, but I like that he talked about getting them focused on you - hard to do in the Twittosphere, but any tips can only be a good thing.
I am building up my following, almost 5000 atm, and it results in around 500 visits to my blog per month so definitely potential to monetize that traffic source.

Thanks for the post Harris, and thanks Ana for posting it here so I could get my coffee AND learn a thing or two about the little blue bird

I firmly believe that any traffic can be monetize, it’s just a matter of picking the right approach. I personally funnel all traffic through my blog and take it from there.

I think you take the same approach, Alex.

Great analogies woven in here and the point is so true.

I experimented with promoting affiliate links on Twitter some time ago. My conclusion was that you’ll get some clicks, but people won’t often buy because it’s too much of a jump from Twitter to the capture or sales page. A bit like approaching someone on a busy street and trying to sell them something.

Far better to build more rapport and connection and share more value by inviting them to your blog first, as you are doing Ana.

You are right, Jym; you’ve got to bridge the gap between Twitter and a sales page and your blog is perfect for that.

Twitter happened to be the first strategy I learn to generate traffic and got quite good at it (pretty much followed Harris’ course).

I don’t use it as a direct money making mechanism of any kind, strictly for traffic. However, many of my tweets do end up on my list, so monetizing that way is not out of question. :)

Thanks, Peter!

Hi Harris,

Thanks for sharing the on the money summation.

Yes, well said about the New York rush hour. I liken twitter to the Wild West of social media.

To make money on twitter, don’t try to make money on twitter. It sounds like a Zen koan, but it’s true. Trying to make money leads to silly, competitive marketing practices which shoot you in the foot and turn off your followers.

Offer value, build a network and cross promote. Toss in the pitch tweets sparingly and you can prosper.
