Great review Ana!
Keywords are one of the things I am clueless about. It sounds like this would be a good way to start dipping my toe in. I’ll have to check it out.

Ana,The video is so cute! I used to be better about taking weekends off from work, but I’ve gotten back in to some bad habits over the past few months. It really is important to take family time! I’ll miss your videos, but I’m glad you’re able to spend more time with your family.

Missing Sunday Coffee with you this week, but as always, lots of good info while I drink my lonely coffee
Networking truly is key! Not just for links, traffic, etc. I’ve met some wonderful and supportive people out there. I’m learning so much from seeing what other people are doing and I think having to come up with a worthwhile comment is great for my writing skills.
Enough about me, I also like sharing the wealth and telling the people in my network about great stuff they may not have found yet.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I just LOVE blog Audit Fridays!!! I just added the FB social plugin to my blog about a week ago and I’m seeing a pretty steady increase (my number’s still on the small side, but since it’s increasing I think I’ll leave it). I’ve also noticed an increase in traffic, comments, etc since joining a blogging buddies group. It really helps to open things up to other comments and I’m learning so much from the other people in my group.

Daniel has really invented an amazing product! As far as your review is concerned I must say they are totally different tools. I’m sorry I have used Keyword Winner and you can’t really compare it. Keyword Winner is extremely powerful for optimizing blog posts and checking your rank position of your posts right in your blog dashboard, there is nothing out there as good as this, I totally love it and wouldn’t change it for the world!
Thanks for the thumbs up, Robert.
However, I can and did compare KW to other tools and apparently you’ve never used MS. I like them both for entirely different reasons.
Welcome to my blog, btw!
I was going to look into KW Winner a while back, but didn’t because I have Market Samurai and SEO Powersuite, on top of those, I have Clickbump SEO and SEOPressor…whew!
If I wasn’t already set, I’d definitely buy the plugin (still might for the support posts that link to my reviews, come to think of it).

I think you are in good hands, James.
Well done comparison! I now know substantially more about both products than I did prior to visiting your site. Guess I’m going to have to start following your blog…
I have a question, though. Given that KW is 1/3rd the price of MS, which would you recommend to get first? I’m a relative newbie, although I’ve had some minor success at SEO for my site — and then my main competition must have hired somebody to beat me out, ’cause that happened after about 3 months of ranking above him for most of the keywords that my students were using to find me (I always ask in my classes to see how they found me). Concurrently, I noticed that my classes are getting smaller, although with the economy taking it in the shorts, I hear on the grapevine that most of the instructors in my niche are seeing smaller classes.
I keep seeing that the “money is in the list” and I don’t have one for my main business — but I’m a one-hit wonder at this point. I don’t have any back-end thing to sell to my students (except that they do come back after 4 years for their license renewals). And the business is such that it has essentially no potential for automation, so when I quit teaching, the money quits coming in, instantly. Naturally, I’m thinking of other things to do…
I’d also like ways to boost my wife’s new travel agency business, and one thing we have come up with is having a contest with some substantial prizes (that would be of interest only to people who like cruises, for now). Trouble is that I don’t know how to set up such a contest, nor how to effectively track the results (how to track things like “tweets” for instance). The travel business has a bit more potential for back-end stuff, and maybe even a little passive income.
We are both suffering from a bit of overwhelm at this point, so I am also looking for some general “where to start” advice.
Hey TX, I’m not Ana, but I would like to take a stab at at least one thing you said here.
Yes, the money I in the list, but a good list should be worth far more then JUST money in the end.
Example: Say you have a 4 or even 5 digit list in the end, you start a new business, you could easily have a built in fan base before you even begin.

Dennis Edell@ Direct Sales Marketing invites you to read: Lack of Use Does Not Make it a Scam!
A big list might help with a new venture, or might not. For instance I have two businesses with two radically different clientele (yeah, I’m weird like that), and a big list from my violins & musical accessories business is not going to have very many people in it who are the least bit interested in getting a concealed handgun license. OTOH, there might be people on both lists interested in cruise travel, but again, I doubt if even a huge list of violin accessory and handgun license customers would do much good for my wife’s travel agency business. Lists are *not* fungible.
I am convinced that the size of the list is much less important than the quality of the list. That’s why Frank Rumbaskas was able to crush a dozen of the big names in an IM contest with only a 100K list. All the ‘gurus’ were using 500K++ lists, but all of them had the *same* names on them, whereas Frank had an organically-grown list that did not include a lot of IM-wannabees in it.
Which is all beside the point. I have NO list at all, so, by definition, the quality is also nonexistent. I’m starting from zero. My wife and I are thinking about doing a contest (with substantial prizes that would appeal to cruise-goers), but we don’t have any good idea of how to manage and track such a contest. So, if anybody has some suggestions on what tools to use or how to get something like that started, I’m listening!
I never meant to imply quantity over quality. it would have to be a good list always.
And you’re right, a big list might help with a new venture, or might not. That’s actually were I might have stopped.
In all fairness, one cannot definitively state hat one would be interested in until presented with it.
Again though, that was just one example. My overall point being, having a backend product to sell now or not is irrelevant to whether or not to start a list.
Even if that was the #1 metric, wouldn’t you want the list in hand when you finally do get that product?
To answer your first question: if you can get Market Samurai right off that bat, do that. It’s a much superior softward and will do your business, whatever it is, a lot more good.
Your assessment of the list building is absolutely correct: the money is not in the list, it’s in your relationship with that list.
However, any business can potentially benefit from a list.
I recently did a list building week at TGC; lot’s of great info there. Check out this link: https://trafficgenerationcafe.online/list-building/
The rest of the question is pretty loaded, as you can imagine - it’s hart to talk about how to organize a contest, promote it, etc.
I could make a suggestion for an ebook by a very well-known blogger, Kristi Hines; it’s all about promotion. You can read more about it in this post: https://trafficgenerationcafe.online/blog-post-promotion/
I don’t know of any other great publications about promotion or how to run a contest, but this one should give you a good start.
Ana

Ana,
I use MS and I am still evaluating and learning how to use it. It takes time to use MS. But MS gives indepth and excellent results. On the other hand KW is a quickie which works really great.
My conclusion is just the same as yours, I use both side by side. Sometimes just KW (when I am in a hurry) and most of the times MS+KW.
Cheers,
Jane.

Hi Ana I have been using market Samurai for a short while now, loving it and finding great keywords to target. It has been a bit buggy lately but I am sure they will sort those issues out. Keyword winner looks like an awesome tool to have as well. Thanks for the in-dept review

I consider KW a good addition as well!
Ana,
Thanks for breaking out and doing this review. It does look like each tool has it’s advantages that would work well together. I love your reviews because I know I get an honest look.

And yes, I do always strive to point out what works and what doesn’t; hope I do a good job at it.
Hi Ana,
I heard about this tool a little while ago and although I was intrigued, for some reason I got the feeling it was targeted at serious affiliate marketer type bloggers.
I mean we’re all affiliate marketers to an extent but I am sure you now what I mean?
Anyway I enjoyed watching you work with it and reading your conclusions. Sounds like it could be a time saver when one doesn’t want to use MS and a good additional tool not a replacement for MS.

You got it, Marcus. For someone who doesn’t have MS yet, KW can be a good starting point.
They also do a bit different functions in a completely different way; that’s why I think using both is the best (and not at all because these are affiliate links.

Thanks for enthusiasm, but you and I both know that KW alone won’t be the magic wand to top rankings.
However, using your keywords instead of a name will. Unfortunately, I am not too fond of it, so next time please use your name.
Sorry Ann, I was a little insensitive. Your request is duly noted. I have not used either Market Samurai or Keyword Winner, will look more into them, albeit I think Keyword Winner is more of what its name says - a winner.

Paula Lee Bright invites you to read: What Are Teachers Worth Around the World
Not at all, Paula - you must be thinking of changing your link to the post. That’s the only time you loose links, since links are connected to links, not to titles per se.
I know I outsource this, but I really do need to learn it. It’s just so frustrating, years later.
I get the principals, but I do not get the mechanics. No tool is going to teach me this unfortunately.
You are very right, Dennis - you still need to know at least the basics and I have a feeling you are well-covered in that respect.

Yes, you can rank any post for just about any keyword without even mentioning it in the body. The main ingredients are links with proper anchor text, and SEO title and description.
I bet your SEO traffic will grow overtime; it’s not the kind of thing that’s build overnight, unfortunately!
