Comment posted on Sunday Coffee with Ana: Link Building, Guest Posting, And Love Confession by Tony Clingan

Hi Ana

Guess from what your saying I need to go back and look at Market Samuri again, I got access to it in the launch stage but never really realised how good it was

Will be interesting to see who you list in your don’t buy list tomorrow although I guess we can think of one or two inclusions

Hope Sunday Coffee proves a success

As always thanks for sharing Tony

    Hi Ana

A really important post and one we should all pay attention to, it’s funny you feel pleased with small advances until you think of it in terms of a lot more traffic and then reality bites, back to the drawing board

  • Keep Your Money, Honey: Which Internet Marketing Products Are Not Worth Their Salt
    Hi Ana

Makes interesting reading, I think we all get caught in the idea that more expensive means better developed and often that’s not the case, many of the big name people seem to develop their membership sites after they have taken the money

I think article spinning will die now that Ezine articles are saying they will close people down who do it

I am staggered by the stuff that hits my inbox daily from clickbank, I now look at certain of that group as offering no value, it’s all pitch on frankly eye watering nonsense, all newbie traps mostly

Products I did rate were Kim Roach’s Traffic Dashboard, it was I think $27 Dollars at launch and had some real actionable stuff in easy to understand videos and a lot of them

I also keep an eye on the Warrior Forum, a lot of good stuff often for under $10 Dollars and yet ready to hand straight to your outsource people to action including stuff on building .gov and .edu backlinks from Adam Roy

  • 202 Bite-Sized Tips To Insanely Increase Your Blog Traffic
    Hi Ana

It’s interesting, I was mulling over my next post when I found myself reading your 202 bite sized tips, telling other people my opinion, no problem with that, writing about sports, given that I’m a professional sportsman by training I’ve never written on that although I did draw on some of my knowledge from that for my new years post in terms of fitness and staying focused

Your use of outrageous pictures always makes me smile, maybe a lesson there but in the end it’s about solid content that keeps us coming back

But the best bit is being inspired, look forward to Sunday Coffee, even if I haven’t drunk any for the last twelve years, far too healthy for my own good

  • State of SEO Affairs: 2010 In a Nutshell
    Hi Ana

Feeling better already knowing that pagerank is listed so infrequently, not that we should crave it

I think the point on the e mails saying about the must have products is getting silly, a certain section of the market is doing itself a lot of harm promoting poor products, I for one have lost respect for people I once thought highly of, lets hope 2011 sees an improvement in that area

All of which makes those who make good recommendations all the more valuable, clearly based on my taking up one of your recommendations and considering others I include you in that number

    Hi Ana

Been using this for just over a month now primarily just for Twitter, love the branding, the pingbacks, the ease of use for posting and clearly I can roll it out on Facebook now that I’ve taken the fledgling first steps, 550 Million people must be an audience worthy of serious cultivation in my thinking

So I would endorse what your saying and recommend anybody sitting on the fence to take up this offer, the updates just keep coming as they continue improving it and at no extra cost to you, how good is that

    Thanks for sharing Tony

Link building without keyword research?

That’s sort of pointless, Dennis.

You do link building to be ranked on search engines. You want to be ranked on search engines to draw in targeted website traffic and ultimately more customers. The traffic has to be targeted to convert, and in order for it to be targeted you have to focus on specific keywords and that, my friend, requires some keyword research leg work.

However, I do have something up my sleeves for you. :)

You can simply use SEMRush to see what your site is already ranking for and then build links with those keywords as anchor text to strengthen your position.

Alternatively, you can do a search on your competitors and, providing they did their keyword research, you can simply “borrow” their research and use it for your own link building.

What do you think of them apples?

Dennis Edell from Direct Sales Marketing dennisedell.com January 12, 2011 at 5:59 am

So by link building, you’re referring to internal linking?

You are definitely on a self-hosted Wordpress platform, and looks like your Wordpress theme is called First Prime Payday - never heard of it before.

Not that it’s bad necessarily, but usually those kinds of themes are not very well-coded and are link generators for their creator, since every blog that uses the theme links back to their site.

… Just came back from your site again - have you ever checked that little theme link and where it goes? It links to a payday loan website.

So yes, now I am sure: your theme most likely sucks :) - if that helps at all.

This is a great idea for a series! Great answers to some very popular questions. It must have been like 6 months ago that I wrote a post about how to add images to comments, and I am still getting traffic from that. lol

I wish I was more comfortable with video. Maybe if I get a great camera! I love the idea of a video series answering questions. Your blog has gone much further beyond just traffic generation advice.

Anyway, you and I MUST get together one of these days and do something together. It’s really nice knowing another blogger in my network is so close!

My Sunday was lovely: good time with family and friends, just as it should be.

I can’t help but constantly think about my future posts; I think I come up with a new idea per hour - at least. Wish I could turn it off. :)

A new idea per hour? Well, that’s a good talent. I spend days just to think about my posts. And worst when mental block strikes, I can’t think enough. Oh! WP plug in directory, I’ll check that out. Thanks again Ana! See you.

No miracle here, John.

When I first started TGC, it would take me a couple of days just to come up with the post idea. Then it would take me 4-5 hours to write a post.

It was painful.

However, practice makes perfect - it’s so true. The more I wrote, the better I got.

Now I have 20-30 ideas for a post at any given time and I can whip up a post in an hour or so. And still improving!

I also think that you might have upset some bloggers with your comment about their guest posts. I think I read on Murlu, a post about guest posting where he was referring to the exact same problem, people just writing a quick post to submit as a guest post get the link in run away (bad blogger, bad!).

I also like your little preview of what it’s going to be live next week, makes us look forward to your post.

Guest posting used to be very exclusive; something that bloggers REALLY worked for hard. No, it’s like you said - slap together a quick post just to get a link.

Well, I’d rather kill myself writing my own content than poison TGC with crappy guest posts. I know of a few blogs that succumb to that temptation and now people only go there for commenting and link building, but don’t learn anything.

This kind of set-up just doesn’t last.

See you back soon!

Hey Ana, I have a question. I have a tech blog and am trying to get traffic to it. I always seem to get at least 200 views a day but it seems to be stuck at that. I am very active in the IM community and know how simple it is to get traffic to internet marketing blogs because of the large number of blogs in that niche.

I have already tried guest posting but my traffic is only like 20 or less views from the sites so I kind of dont like gues tposting anymore. And I do forum marketing but cant seem to find any good tech forums which allow signatures. I seem to spend most of my time in IM forums.

I really want to take my blog off the ground but dont seem to know how. Can you help?
Edwin´s last blog ..How To Stop Your Computer From FreezingMy ComLuv Profile

Reply

Ana trafficgenerationcafe.com January 9, 2011 at 4:55 pm

No easy answer here, Edwin - it’s all about testing.

I just got back from your blog. You seem to provide a wealth of knowledge in your area of expertise. It’s also a great topic and everyone, just about, has a computer question at one point or another.

The main problem is that people look for that kind of information when they have a problem, not at any other time. But it’s also a good thing, because they are more likely to buy whatever services/products you offer to help them with the problem.

What you need to do is set a goal to become the “to-go” guy for anyone having a computer question.

The biggest traffic draw - in my opinion, would be search engines. People looking for answers to specific questions.

So I would look more into keyword research and link building for that.

Also, a question on guest posting: what kinds of blogs did you write for? Are they at the top of their game or semi-visited blogs?

For instance, in my IM niche, I’d go straight to blogs like Problogger, Copyblogger, etc - something everyone knows of. I wouldn’t mess with anything smaller than that.

Also, your content is really fairly diverse. You can really make posts for ANY kind of blog in IM niche and fit right in. Look at this post that Dev from Technshare just wrote for Problogger: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2011/01/04/how-to-make-your-blog-load-faster-than-problogger/

I can imaging you could really write something like that.

So you need to approach this a bit more creatively. If one thing doesn’t work, try another.

And as always, feel free to run your ideas by me.

By the way, you can certainly test guest posting for my blog - see how it goes. I know you meant to, but never followed through. :)

Hey Ana,
me and my cup of coffee wish you a nice day today :)

I see you mentioned what coffee maker you use so I gotta say I had luck this year (or last). My hubby got the new Keurig coffee maker for Christmas and guess who is using it :) I love the thing!

I also like the new looks of your video with the screenshot of your blog at the back, nice touch.

Definitely interested in guest posting and it is one of the top three things for me to do this month. E-mail signature, yup, gonna do that too, esp. that you are recommending a Firefox add-on (I am addicted to them).

I also wondered about your little coffee cup but about 10 days ago I spied on your code with Firebug. However, still didn’t use the code, since I am thinking of how to brand my blog (like you do to yours with coffee cups everywhere).

As you know (hope you noticed, lol) I have been reading your blog religiously and I want to say that I learned a lot in last few weeks. I need to say that the number 1 thing I learned is about tribes and that it is working. So just wanted to drop a “thank you” here :)

Branding is important. I was like you - I knew that I wanted something different, but didn’t know what. Eventually, I made myself sit down and come up with ideas. That worked! I love my coffee theme - it definitely suits me. :)

Look forward to seeing what you come up with!

And by the way, maybe you should write a post on your favorite Firefox add-ons and how to REALLY make use of them in your business.
