Friday’s Quick Tips for Keeps: Are You Sure You Want to Do This?

by · 49 comments

fridays quick tips for keepsA couple of weeks ago, we talk about have an editorial calendar to schedule your posts ahead the way that actually makes sense.

Judging by your comments, many of you have quick fingers and happened to publish posts in the past that shouldn’t have been published.

I am right there with you on this one.

“Are You Sure You Want to Do This?”

So I dug up a plugin that will actually ask us “Are you sure you’d like to publish this post?” before it’s too late and your half-baked post will be circulating the blogosphere.

Publish Confirmation by Tristan Higbee.

A great plugin by a great (and turns out, multi-talented) blogger.

Publish Confirmation along with the very helpful Editorial Calendar should really make you into a very timely and organized blogger - something that some of us never experience without a plugin before! :)

Also in the Plugin World:

Are You Webmaster Tools Legit?

Google Webmaster Tools are a necessity for all of us, website owners, and that’s probably why I mention it so often in many of my posts.

However, as I read your comments, I hear a lot that many of you are still not using the tools or have trouble verifying your WP blogs.

Well, it’s not a problem any longer.

“For webmasters with self-hosted WordPress blogs, there’s now a Webmaster Tools site verifcation plugin for WordPress that completely automates our verification process! You can install it directly from the “Install Plugins” control panel built into your WordPress blog, or you can download the ZIP file from the WordPress plugin site. This plugin can only be used by self-hosted WordPress blogs; it can’t be installed on blogs hosted on wordpress.com.” (Source)

So if you, for whatever reason, haven’t verified your blog with Google Webmaster Tools do it now or forever hold you peace.

Love it or hate it? Comment to show me that you’re alive!

In my opinion, the two highest value type links are guest posts and article marketing.

Those are two very powerful tools, Deshraj.

Most of all, we ought to refrain from giving advisor which we don’t tag along when it damages those who woo assume us at our word.

Google does not show all the links you have and there is no way to tell how much all of those external links that you worked hard for count. It is felt by many experts that they all count some even though they do not show in link checkers. In my opinion, the two highest value type links are guest posts and article marketing.

Ana | Traffic Generation May 9, 2011 at 5:35 am

Very true on both points, yet doesn’t mean that we should stop building links through comments, like you are doing right now.

The thing I like most with Webmaster tools is that it can supply you with an external link report. With this report, I can see which sites are linked to my site from Google’s standpoint.

Cool plugin. Got to try this one out. Haven’t had mishaps yet cos I seem to ask myself a lot if a blog post is worthy of being published. But still, love to try a cool free plugin myself :D

Ana - I think the plug-in I need is “did you remember to spell check the article” or better yet “did you remember to spell check that comment” before hitting post. I wish every site provided the capability that Twitter offers to delete a comment.

Hey, Ana. Just wanted to thank you for the tips this week. I love the editorial calendar plug in. Now I just have to catch back up on my blogging so I have future posts to schedule again. ;)

Also, I love this post because of how you’ve taken the time to read and analyze your user’s comments. Any decent blogger will always reply to comments left on their blog, but the great ones take it a step further like you do. This really shows your appreciation for your blog community and the many comments they leave here.

Keep up the great work, Ana.

Hey Ana-

What a great idea! I’ve often wondered what would happen if I accidently hit ‘publish’ instead of ‘save draft,’ and a crappy post was sent into the blogosphere. Not that any reader would suffer needlessly, but my profession has enough naysayers without adding fuel to the Freudian fire:p.

Thankfully WP has both buttons on opposite ends of the screen, but still…

Thanks so much Tristan-enjoyed the vid. Off to try it out now:).

Hahah this is awesome, Ana! Thanks for plugging my plugin! It’s kind of obscure, so that’s great that you found it. I can’t really take credit for the code, though. I had the same problem with prematurely publishing my posts and tried to find a plugin to fix it. I couldn’t find anything, but I did find some guy post some code in a forum. I took the code, tweaked it a bit, put it in plugin form, and submitted it to the WP plugin directory.

I’m really glad you like it, and hopefully this post will help others find it, too. Thanks again!

Ana | Traffic Generation April 29, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Well, glad you found it, Tristan, because I had quite a few mishaps lately and, while looking for this plugin, was quite surprised to see your name on it.

Your code or not, you are the one who turned it into something we all could use! Thanks for that.
