Here is an easy and absolutely free trick you can use to increase blog traffic right away by getting your new blog indexed by Yahoo and Bing.
Believe it or not, but these two search engine behemoths (and not just them) will almost instantly (sometimes within 48 hours or less) index your blog the second one of your visitors includes your blog RSS feed in their search engine specific account.
For instance, Yahoo will spider your RSS feed and blog when a visitor of yours will include your feed into their personal Yahoo account.
Once that happens, Yahoo will do this within 48 hours – an amazingly short time for such a fit, wouldn’t you agree?
More exposure for the blog = increased blog traffic!
To top it off, this process doesn’t cost you a penny.
You can further speed up the process by subscribing to your own feed in your My Yahoo! Account.
Before you do it, make sure you have the following 3 things lined up:
- an account with Yahoo! (duh…),
- your RSS feed URL (it will look something like this http://feeds.feedburner.com/TrafficGenerationCafe),
- and a good amount of posts in your blog (after all, you do not want anybody to come to an empty blog - won’t gain much blog traffic that way:).
Once you are ready, log into your account and immediately after you are logged in, look for an ‘Add Content’ button.
On the next page you will see a search box, to the right of which there will be a link titled ‘Add RSS by URL’. I am sure you know what to do from here.
As a final step though, make sure your feed was added correctly.
Wasn’t that easy?
Now, you can increase your blog traffic by doing the same with Bing. The steps you will take will be almost identical to those above, so I won’t bore you with repetition.
That’s all there is to it!
Now every time you create a new blog, make sure you add the feed to both your Yahoo and Bing accounts for quick and painless, and best of all, free indexing.
UPDATE: add Google Reader to that list!
Your are right: you don’t have to comment or retweet, but would it help if I told you it would be much appreciated?

Thanks for another great post. Clear, concise, real.
I followed your directions and it “imported” posts into my Yahoo “account”.
My question is-how does that increase my traffic? If I have a link from my blog to Yahoo, who’s going to see it, other than me?
I’m missing something here…but I TRUST ya!

Thanks for trusting me, John.
The point of this is not to get traffic, but it’s to attract search engine bots and tell them you have new content on your site.
You see when you first publish a blog post, the search engines don’t know anything about it until they find a link somewhere that leads them to that post. Since search engines like Yahoo are crawled constantly, the link to your post will be discovered very quickly, which will in turn prompt search engine bots to index your post.
I hope this lengthy explanation makes sense!

You mentioned that adding a RSS feed to Bing was “The steps you will take will be almost identical to those above, so I won’t bore you with repetition.”…
I just created a MS Live account, and went to the Bing Explorer page…Nowhere on that page can you Add Content, so I went to my MSN page and found the same thing…
Could you give a bit more information on how to add a feed to Bing/MSN?…
Thanks in advance…
Tom
Hi, Tom - it’s been a while since I wrote that post; I don’t even have MSN account any longer.
Let me see if I can help you figure it out - in my next comment.

Hi, I have been thinking of setting up own personal internet site. However, not benevolence with techie facts. Is it troublesome to create a web? Would I need to have to expend time learning programming and coding?
There are plenty of free and paid software to create your website from scratch. Knowing a bit of HTML always helps though.
Hi Ana. Excellent information. One question for you. What did you mean by the front page when you are checking to make sure your rss feed came in OK?
Thanks

You are right, Joyce, that was not too clear. I added a picture to clarify.
Also, I recently wrote another post on blog indexing - it has a lot more info and tips; here is the link: 7 Ways To Index Your Blog By Search Engines Within 24 Hours
I'm reading some of your posts right now, and finding them very helpful! Thanks for posting!

Thanks for stopping by, Julie, and I am glad I could help.
You are very welcome, Angel. I love finding tips that are easy to implement and can have an immediate effect on our businesses.
That's an awesome tip Ana. People often overlook Yahoo and MSN because they are so focused in on Google, but they can bring us massive amounts of traffic as well.
Thanks for the cool post
Angel
