Comment posted on DoFollow Express: Is Traffic Generation Cafe Getting Off? by Randy Pickard

As the editor of a fairly recent blog your suggestion seems well worth testing out. I hope it will be fairly straight forward to calulate the value of traffic increases versus the increased time spent in moderating comments. Now I have to go find the code to switch my blog comments over to do-follow. Thank you for the useful advice.

  • Link Intelligence: What Goldilocks Can Teach You About Linking Out
In regard to the impact of outbound links on ranking, the only definitive information from Google was in a 1998 paper published by Google founders Brin and Page. Based on the 12 year old version of the algorithm outbound links leaked page authority. A few years ago, page rank sculpting was the fad in the SEO community based on the theory of not leaking PageRank. However, in 2010 a blog or website without any external links is going to appear very unnatural to the Google algorithm. Further, it is widely assumed that Bing tends to reward outbound linking to authoritative and relevant sites. While it is probably prudent to limit links to external sites on posts that are intended to pass link authority to your own older posts, in general, as Ana suggests, creating outbound links to relevant sites offers more benefits than drawbacks.
  • On-Page Ranking Factors That Scream or Whisper
Is increasing page download speed really important? Some residential real estate sites that I was worked provided a great test bed. They were huge sites, in the 50,000 to 100,000 page range. We made some changes that increased download speed by 35%. The result was about a 20% increase in search engine traffic to the sites we optimized.
  • Top 10 Split Testing Tips to Increase Your Landing Page Conversion Rates
Ana - Based on some very expensive testing conducted in the past, I’m a bit skeptical about the potential for changes in fonts and colors to really moves the needle significantly. However, what our testing did show was that adding more calls to action, improving the calls to action (great examples in your post) and changing the site navigation are the game changers. However, our testing was conducted on a site selling a complicated service. The simpler your selling proposition is, the more likely changes in fonts and colors are to impact conversion rate. And one of our business partners that had a basic one page site for lead generation had great success changing fonts and colors. Regardless, my experience is that the biggest opportunity for conversion improvements is to focus on testing your calls to action. I recommend a split test of stuffing your site with calls to action. Go overboard in the test, and then pull it back based on what you learn.

Great advice. Also, if a blog or online publisher has multiple editors with published e-mails, select the one that you are most likely to connect with. Research their background and read their recently published posts before contacting them or submitting a guest post.

I agree with the comment made by Sathish. I comment on high and low traffic blogs as part of my link campaign but, and I’ve got a big one;-) I only comment on posts that I find interesting or supply me with useful information.

To do otherwise would be soul destroying. I’m not a spamming robot…

I’ve read a few of your posts Ana and have added your site to my small list of “visit often” blogs.

As regards the fair exchange thing (a comment for a link) I think it’s up to the individuals concerned. Like I said, I comment on the value of the post not the value of the link.

Happy New Year to you.

Paul.

I definitely agree, Paul - if a post doesn’t move me in any way and I’ve got nothing to say about it, I don’t say anything, link or no link.

However, if I learned something from another blogger, a thank you in the form of a comment is in order.

Happy to have made the cut! :) I assume it means I will see your here a lot more often. Look forward to it.

i’ve been using superseocomments since about when it first came out. I dont really have a high traffic blog but I always though 1) dofollow 2) garner ‘juice’ from all posts they comment onto a ‘uber’ profile page will meant a MUCH stronger link so more beneficial to them.

Currently I think Yaost’s new SEO plugin is playing with it a bit, will have to verify.Otherwise its a GREAT plugin in my opinion.

I definitely agree, Donace - the plugin is worth its salt! Love the idea behind it, love what it does for my blog and commentators.

I haven’t heard of any alternatives; let me know what you find out.

Welcome to my blog, by the way, and Happy New Year!

Hi Ana, I usually comment in some high traffic blogs mainly for my link building campaign. But whenever I find an article which gives more values to the readers I don’t worry about the Nofollow, dofollow thing. I just post a comment to appreciate the author. The later is the reason that I am commenting here.
