Great post Pat this is some great advice and a little unorthodox which is why I like it.

    Hello Ana,

Great post like Marcus said I do most of what you have mentioned some consciously and some unconsciously.

What I did do is open another tab and go through the things I wasn’t sure about in the admin page.

Luckily these things were in place correctly but I would have never known to check if you hadn’t of written this great post.

Now I have more value to pass on to others.

I also agree with Marcus I like the validated plug in pretty sweet.

All I need now is a cup of that coffee.

Fabulous tips Pat. Guest posts really are a win win situation aren’t they. The one who writes the post gets new exposure to his writing style and the blog owner gets new traffic from his/her followers - brilliant.

I didn’t realize that an RSS footer was that box that makes it easy to RT - great idea.

Thanks for the excellent info.

Great tips Pat,

The method that I like to most is to make your subscribers work for you, just like you can do with your readers that will share your posts and contribute to your traffic in more then one way.

Also, I think that getting people to promote your content is much better then you bombarding them with links and suggestions. At least for me, I would much rather listen a friend which recommends me to subscribe to your list then look at your call for action.

Video is works wonders, especially if you can rank high for keywords in YouTube that are highly searched for. YouTube is, of course, the 2nd top search engine in the world, other than Google (oh, and Google owns YouTube).

Hey Pat,

I have been trying to work up enough content to be able to develop a landing page and show people some great stuff to read, but your comments about great copy have changed my perspective. If can can distill the purpose of my blog and relate to the reader it might be enough to get a sign up anyway. I’m really going to have to work on this as my conversions are really poor at the moment.

Thanks for the tips

Wow, Pat. Now I’m really nervous! You’re going to be a tough act to follow, as my post is tomorrow. LOL

I love your landing page tips and I have been completely neglectful in using landing pages until recently. I’ve used the webinar strategy you talk about as well, asking people to opt in at the end of one of my posts, for a webinar I was going to be hosting. It worked great. I appreciate the reminder that it’s about time to do it again. I’ll have to try it out with affiliates sometime too!

Great, great job!

Wow a ton of great strategies here Pat. I’m using many of the ones you mention - landing page, RSS footer, YouTube, etc. - however there are a few more I will be using soon. So far I’ve had more success with the on-site signup forms than the solo landing page, but that could be because all of my YouTube videos are watched on my site. More of that to come though so we’ll see.

Thanks Robert! It definitely starts with what you do on-site, and once that’s optimized looking outside of the blog is the next best way to really take your list building to a whole new level. All the best to you!

Good stuff Pat! I’m jumping all over that RSS Footer plugin today. I also like the social media approaches, but I’d like to add one thing.

I’m new to Twitter and I’m finding that I have to tweet the same thing a few times for it to really have a visible affect on my clicks. I take the same link and tweet it using different copy over the course of several days. This is probably nothing new to seasoned pro’s, but for newbies like me, it’s a major “aha” moment. So actually, instead of picking and choosing, you could use all 3 social media approaches to maximize success.

That’s really good advice Dahlia. The thing about Twitter is that some people follow so many others that any one message from their followers can easily get lost. Repeating a tweet with different headlines is a great way to increase the visibility of your tweets and links, and it’s also good practice for headline generation too because a great article will not be read if the headline isn’t intriguing. Thanks!
