Hey Jym! Yep, spammers do attempt it, and if you host you’ll find you’ll get several spam submissions. But you can usually tell right off the bat because they are so far off topic it’s amazingly obvious. lol

Thanks for sharing about Blog Carnivals. I had read about it once before by Yaro but never got around to doing it. I would love to have a BC about something about relationships and couples, as that’s the work I do and what I blog about. Time to actually do it this time. Anybody else interested?
Thanks for the reminder,

Well Cori, your post is proof-positive that one is never too old to learn new things!

That’s why I just love this industry we’re in - I get to learn something new every day.

One question I do have is this - are all the blogs that host these carnivals “do-follow”?

And, how would one go about checking that before submitting a post for consideration?

Otherwise - stay inspired!

Hey Michael! You know honestly, I’m not sure. The blog I paired up with to host one is do-follow, and mine is as well. You should be able to do a bit of sleuthing to find out if the blog hosting the carnival is do-follow… Firefox even has a plugin for it, SEO for Firefox. This post also might help shed a bit of light when determining if a blog is do-follow or not- http://followlist.com/blog/dofollow-blog-info/how-do-i-know-if-a-blog-is-do-follow Hope that helps hun!

Hey Cori,

Great insight to blog carnivals. I hadn’t heard of this concept before (at least by name) but you’ve certainly piqued my interest.

Any platform which promotes valuable content, helps seekers find, and producers share and gain exposure is a good thing all round, as long as the spammers don’t get a foot in the door.

All the best and thanks Ana for hosting this informative article!

That is a great description, Cori. I have never participated in a blog carnival, but I have been curious about how they work. I suppose that the results depend somewhat on the number of contributor that are involved?

Reply

Cori Padgett biggirlbranding.com October 18, 2010 at 9:28 am

Thanks Roy, glad you enjoyed the post! :) I would say you definitely want a minimum number of contributors, I’d say at least 8-10 to make it interesting for all.

Cori,

I’ve been using Blog carnivals every week for the past few years. Indeed they can be a great source of traffic and backlinks.

I submit to approx 10 blog carnivals each week and every couple of months or so, I carry out research to see which ones have been added.

Alex,

You can get targeted traffic but how much and how targeted really depends upon the blog title and the enticing sentence you provide to the blog carnival.
