Traffic Generation Blogging Contest – How I Got Over 400 Comments on My Entry

traffic generation blogging contest

It's contest time!

I recently entered the big Traffic Generation blogging contest, which is currently running until 15 April 2011.

As this is my very first contest, I really wanted to make it a success.

A number of bloggers around the world have now submitted their best articles, with one goal in mind - to win the contest. You gotta be in it to win it, right?

Now, there are several factors that the judges will be considering when scoring the contest entries:

  • The quality of content
  • The number of tweets and shares
  • Social exposure and popularity
  • The number of comments received and the responses made

As of today, my contest post has over 400 comments and counting. And that’s what I’ll be talking about in this post.

contest entry comments image

So, how did I do it? This is a question that I have been getting from a lot of people including Ana ;) . And I will spill the beans right here.

Simply put, I promoted my contest entry like my life was dependent on it!

Blog Post Promotion

A few days before my contest post went live, I made a very wise decision and purchased Kristi Hines’ new and inexpensive ebook, called Blog Post Promotion - The Ultimate Guide.

The timing was absolutely perfect for me. I was very fortunate that Kristi finished her book just in time before I started promoting my entry.

I read it right away, in one sitting, and I just couldn’t wait to implement the blog post promotion strategies discussed in there.

And as I started putting what I have learned into action, I also had other ideas popping into my head, which I have never thought of or used before.

How it Works

This is definitely the ultimate guide when it comes to promoting your blog posts. If you have your own pillar post, guest post or contest post that you want to promote heavily, this is a must-read ebook.

Why does it work?

Kristi won 3 out 4 contests that she had entered previously, so she definitely knows what she is talking about. And I listened to her as I wanted similar results as hers. :)

So, I have implemented most of the strategies that I learned in the book and they are responsible for bringing my fantastic results - a lot of comments and shares.

I’m not using some of the methods as I needed more time to set them up beforehand; however, I’ll use them in the future as I now know the ins and outs of promoting a blog post massively for incredible results.

The Power of Networking

One of the key factors to creating a buzz on your blog and getting your name and blog out there is networking - it’s very powerful.

I got fed up of having a lonely blog, a while back.

I then started networking with other bloggers through blog commenting, guest posting, social media interaction etc. I soon got noticed as my face was seen everywhere across the web.

I have built great relationships and made good friendships along the way.

Getting Helping Hands

The fact is you can’t promote your blog posts heavily on your own - you need some help. And that’s one of the things that Kristi teaches in her book.

Since I belong to a number of networking groups and communities online, it was easier for me to ask other members/friends for their help with promoting my contest entry.

traffic generation youtube comments

Most of them were happy to help - left me comments and shared my post. Some of them wanted a favor in return, and I happily obliged (within reason of course). Some have not responded at all and that’s okay.

Think about it… If you have friends with the same interests and goals, they would be happy to help you, if you ask them.

That’s exactly what I did. It was more like putting the phrase: “Ask and you shall receive”, into action and it worked.

Marketing Takeaway

Want to make your blog posts popular? Want to get crazy amount of comments, retweets and shares?

I highly recommend that you get yourself a copy of Blog Post Promotion - The Ultimate Guide.

You now have the opportunity to learn about the specific blog post promotion strategies from someone who has achieved amazing results, using the same proven to work methods.

Please come and check out my blogging contest entry, comment on it and share it on social media as *crazy* as you can! ;)

How About You?

  • Have you read this ebook already?
  • If you have, how is it working for you?
  • How do you get crazy comments and shares on your blog posts?

Hello Mavis,

We can definitely see the power of social right here. If you have enough friends and people to whom you can say your request then you will most likely get a response and the biggest power you can have is influence. If people think that you are a trend setter then it’s easy to ask them for a favor.

Also, like you mentioned one of the methods that don’t need any beforehand preparation is to ask someone to help in exchange for a favor (just like some commenting tribes work).

You did very well and I wish you good luck, tomorrow the results are out ;)

It seems everywhere I turn I run across another great piece of information by Mavis! I love it. Girlfriend, you really got it going on! Thank you so much for sharing it.

That said, when I first put my blog up I honestly thought, “If you build it they will come.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had to ask my mom to comment on my blog to make sure it was working!

I’ve joined a few groups, learned about a few plugins and my comments are consistently rolling in - but I’m always up for more. Am definately going to look this book up. Thank you!

Hey Mavis, congrats about your awesome progress and achievement so far, on the contest. I believe most of your results are due to your having taken action on what you read from Kristi’s new book - that’s what makes a whole lot of difference. I bet you than some other people may have also got the book but just added it to their ‘I have this book too” bragging right.

I’m impressed with your results - 400+ comments is an enviable one.

Good luck in the finals.

Hi Mavis,

If you have a strong helping online network then you can easily influence many visitors and readers, I think that’s what you did quite brilliantly.

Of course if you have some important advice from a experienced person then it also make your task quite easy.

How awesome Mavis. Great to hear that the Ebook is worthwhile too.

A great resource on it’s own means nothing if you don’t implement what you have learned however.

It’s obvious that this is exactly what you’ve done.

Congratualtions and all the best for the competition.

You are absolutely right about making it a priority, last year I joined a contest where I promoted and pushed and was able to win a free Nintendo Wii + Wii Fit Balance board and I won a Dell Inspiron Laptop all from the same contest. I have a much smaller reach than other bloggers, but because I was one of the first to hit the contest I hit the milestones fast. Then when other bloggers with larger social networks got involved they skyrocketed to the top and won the bigger prizes like the iPad and Macbook Pro, but I was just happy I won what I had.

Hi Mavis,

Well done! I actually purchased Kristi’s ebook as well. I agree, great stuff! I only wish I had implemented those tactics with the blogging contest. :-(

Lesson learned: reading and research won’t make one bit of difference if you don’t implement and take action!!

It’s all about setting priorities as as you said, “You gotta be in it to win it, right?”

These opportunities is all about networking and you are a prime example of the benefits of reaching out and making requests of people… awesome!

Well done Mavis. I have to admit that you have out it a lot of effort to receive all the attention for that awesome entry of yours. So to show you that aside from having the determination to do something, action is more important than anything else. Since you did exactly what was needed to be done, the results are proof enough to show that it is possible. 400+ comments is massive and poor “guy” who had to host your entry, haha. Just kidding. You know me, can’t miss an opportunity, lol. Keep it up!
