How to Get Paid Using Your Existing Content

Last Updated on March 21, 2017

how to make money from existing contentYesterday, we talked about how to bribe your readers/social media followers to spread your content via Twitter and Facebook.

Today, I promised to show you how it works in practice - getting paid for your existing content or content generated based on your existing content, whether in cash or in tweets.

Aha… now that I said “in cash”, I really do have your attention, don’t I?

Whether you decide to sell your content or simply use it to generate more traffic to your blog, this strategy works like a charm and is very simple to implement.

How I Did It

I decided to write an extensive post about Twitter.

Not because I haven’t written on the topic before (are you kidding me?), but because, no matter how much I write about Twitter, my readers seem to have even more question about it.

Step 1. So I decided to dig out my best and most relevant posts about Twitter, specifically on Twitter traffic generation and getting the right followers.

Step 2. Then I added some new tips I’ve never published on this blog before and only the subscribers to my email list had access to (see, it pays to join thousands of others and start getting my traffic generation tips in your inbox).

Step 3. Next, I published the post as private - I did it so that only people who actually retweet my new Twitter guide would have access to it.

(Note: right after I published this post, I started getting comments that my readers couldn’t get my guide - the page was producing a 404 error. Lesson learned: instead of publishing something as a private post, do it as a page instead. That way you won’t have the problem I had - thanks for your patience, everyone - and your page still won’t show in your blog stream.)

Step 4. Armed with my privately published post URL, I went to CloudFlood.com and created a Twitter button that you see as one of the widgets in my sidebar to your left right now.

Step 5. I am now writing a post about the button, making sure you know how valuable my Twitter guide is and urging you to RT about it in order to get the guide and, while at it, see how the system works, so that you can set it up on your own as well.

Not too much to it, as you can see.

The most time-intensive part was writing the guide itself, but I did use a lot of older posts as the basis for it; the following steps were a breeze.

Sell Your Content for Cash

Follow the same 3 steps to start.

Go through your blog posts to see which ones can be grouped together to make an interesting ebook/special post.

Compile them together, tie them with a narration or some extra tips that you have up your sleeve.

Save it as a PDF or publish it as a private post.

Set the price, write about it and watch the sales come in.

Marketing Takeaway

Creating an ebook or a private blog post that you can give away for a tweet, thus building your traffic and online brand awareness, or sell, thus generating some cash from your blogging efforts, doesn’t have to be a complicated matter.

In other words, it’s as complicated as you make it out to be.

I highly recommend you try it though.

It’s working pretty well considering I’m only using it on one post. I need to write more of the same sort so I can really capitalize on it. At the moment those who have signed under me seem to be doing a lot better as I am making more from their efforts than I am from my own. It’s probably because the system is more suited to them but that only means I need to work at getting the right kind of posts out.

Agreed, Ana. Internet marketing is all about leveraging your time for incredible results.

Many marketers do not realise the power of turning one piece of content into a blog post, a video, a podcast, a press release and a PDF etc.

When you recycle content, you give your content maximum exposure which will in turn generate more traffic to your blog and business. Also great for building backlinks.

I’m currently working on an ebook featuring my best posts. I loved your post and look forward to reading your guide 🙂

    All the best,
    Mavis

Great advice. I don’t think I have enough content to make a free/paid pdf but it’s something I will keep in mind!

That picture of Sean Connery hilarious but I’m glad it’s not any bigger than that!

No surprise here, Ana — 404 Error “File Not Found” message when clicking your “Share to Get” button. Sorry. 🙁

Your tips are tip top! I think it’s always a creative, clever, (and smart!) idea to resurrect old posts and bring them back to life again, especially if you can have them work for you to get more visitors or make sales. I’m a big fan of recycling and re-purposing.

Love the graphic you chose for your Twitter Guide giveaway. Now I know you’re a gal with a great sense of humor. 🙂

Thanks, Melanie - I love the picture too. 🙂

The link is fixed now (learned a lesson in the process), so please come back and get your guide and let me know what you think about my recycling program.

I should be put in jail for reading your Twitter Guide, Ana. I feel as if I’m a thief who’s just stolen something priceless from you!

Your guide is filled to the brim (overflowing, actually) with no-holds-barred expert tips, resources, and personal strategies. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned from you considering I view myself as a Twitter-savvy Twitterholic. 🙂

Thanks for a great lesson and a prime example of how to implement Cloud Flood.

Awesome follow-up, Ana…I tried the link, and got 404’d, too. At least I’m in good company.

Thanks for clarifying my question in yesterday’s post. I’m gonna recycle, refresh, and reel in some existing blog posts to repackage as free booty.

Looking forward to your Twitter guide:).

Great ideas! As always you over-preform. I am going to pay my tweet right now and get your twitter guide.

I have been wanting to get more traffic through twitter, but did not know how to do it. I know your guide will help me with that.

    Ana,

I am a firm believer in the “leverage mindset” and using and reusing your content to the best of your ability.

Using your old posts to create eBooks/guides or special reports for sale or for purposes of a lead magnet is an awesome idea.

    You can also

-Rewrite old posts for article marketing/guest posts
-Turn old posts into youtube video
-Make old posts into a audio file or podcast
-Sell old posts as PLR on someplace like WSO (not particularly recommended…but possible)
-Use old posts as the “basis” for broadcast/autoresponder emails

It is YOUR content. You work hard for it and your best content should get the attention it deserves.

Wealth of advice in a simple blog comment, Steve - thank you.

I am sure my visitors will love it and you gave me an idea for a great post.
