Wow, I had no idea these things existed… but after reading this, it sounds like a brilliant idea! I’ve been new to the whole “commenting” thing for the past couple months and I had no idea how much it could do for my blog! Thanks for sharing this, Ana.

Hello Elise,
Welcome to my blog. Yes tribes definitely exist and it’s definitely a great way to drive traffic to your site.
All the best,
Ana
Hi Ana,
As a proud member of your Facebook tribe, I cannot thank you enough for inviting me to join you.
At the time, there was no much activity on my blog and I wasn’t even sure if I was really qualified to be a part of your group. Now, I can’t believe the traffic and comments that I am now getting. Yes, just like you, the initial comments were from the other members, but I soon started seeing new faces as well
It’s really great to see my content/links being shared all over the place by other people - building social proof for me
And your strict and clear rules are keeping us all in line and that explains why our group is so successful. Those who can’t take the heat, they simply leave the kitchen!
I have a blogging schedule and I find that by being a member of your group has also helped me to stick to it. I never wanted to miss a deadline to submit my new posts. It gives me a sense of responsibility.
Lastly, I have met incredible people and have learned a lot from them. In fact, I’m still learning new things everyday
So, Ana, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you massively for inviting me to join your amazing group and for all your help since I met you a few months ago.
Keep up the good work. All the best to you!

Hey Ana,
Totally agree with you that the number of comments made on a post is “social proof” that people are reading and people frequently visit your blog. Having a traffic commenting tribe is a very interesting idea and I like it when you said in one of the comments about making it a small instead of too large a group.

I strongly feel that we need to help our business, not overwhelmed ourselves further, Bryan.
With that in mind, the size of the tribe is very important: just big enough to fulfill its purpose, yet small enough not to become your second day job.
Thanks for coming by and wishing you a great weekend.

Hi Ana,
Once again, you offer up a great idea. I definitely need to look into this “tribe” concept. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Ana, I found you through Mavis Nong’s blog. I’m a newbie to blogging and just put up my first post today woo hoo!!! I’m going to adapt the ‘tribe’ strategy but I’m just wondering what the best way forward is since Im very new and have no comments on my blog yet.
Looking forward to your response.

Welcome to my blog, Ruth.
First, you need to publish more great content. Don’t look for readers yet; nobody wants to come to an empty book.
After you publish 15-20 solid posts, then it’ll be good time to start drawing traffic.
Meanwhile, find other blogs in your niche and start commenting. Start watching them to see how many comments they get, if they get much traffic, etc. Then approach them with an idea of joining your tribe.
Hope this helps!
Ana
Very nice, Ana. I’m going to look into the commenting Tribe and see if I can find some like-minded individuals to connect with. This is an idea that is so obvious and yet it would *never* have occurred to me.
Thanks much for the info you provide. Peace!

Hi Ana, my first time in your neck of the woods and needless to say, I’m really, really impressed. I hate to admit it, but I had no idea these types of ‘tribes’ existed. The concept makes a ton of sense and I only wish I’d known about this sooner. I look back on this last year of blogging and realize that I basically wasted my first 6 months because I simply didn’t understand networking. And although I’ve gotten much, much better, this article reminds me I’ve got a long ways to go.
Thanks for the read!
Hello Marcus,
Each one of us commit mistakes in the past, but I believe it’s not a waste of time because it’s always been a learning process. What’s important is that you learn something from those experiences. As to joining a tribe, you can add it to your “to do list” and I’m sure it can help you bring more traffic to your site.
All the best,
Ana
Oh, wow, Ana…one more hit

I have never heard of tribes but it seems like a really, really great idea.
This is going to the top of my to-do list and if I may use this comment to ask (feel free to edit or delete) - is anyone interested in “tribing” with me…we could start from here and try this tactics now
Thanks for this info, this is why I love following you on Twiter (that’s how I saw this post).

I was one of the few that had very little traffic to my site and just like your blog, I have watched mine morph into many great things. I am so grateful for being part of the tribe and look forward to many more fun and exciting times as we all grow and help each other out.
Hello Ana,
It’s really humbling how each one of us starts from nothing. It’s a nice feeling knowing that we were able to achieve something in a matter of months by helping and supporting each other. I am also grateful to each one of you.

Where I never heard the term tribe before, I do know there are many such groups out there; for tweeting and social sharing also.
Someone above left an interesting remark. lets say a blog in the group rarely writes commentable posts, I really wouldn’t wanna feel like i had to; it would most likely be rap anyway.

Hello Tribe,
The good thing in a tribe is that commenting is not done by force. Once you join a tribe, you have to understand that you are a part of a community that help and support each other through commenting so this is purely voluntary. It is your responsibility as a member of a tribe and we always make sure that every member truly understand that because its for the benefit of everyone.
Thanks for dropping by,
Ana
Ana Hoffman´s last blog ..Lead Conversion Strategies – The Missing Puzzle To YOUR Success
Hi Ana,
first of all thank you a huge “Thank you” and a big hug from me…for the invitation to your group back in July and the incredible momentum you created, also for not shying away from following through with the rules.
Is this really forced commenting ? I don’t think so because we all do it voluntarily even if we are part of a community and “have ” to keep our end of the deal.
On very very rare occasions I wouldn’t have left a comment if I hadn’t been supposed to leave one.
So it’s a deal: A deal everybody benefits from.
I have the impression that those who feel like being forced disappear from the group anyway. And that’s perfectly OK.
I agree with Heather that I got in contact with amazing people - like you and Heather for example and others of course - and that true friendship developped.
I hope that I was able to contribute something positive to other people’s lives just like other people did to me.
Be blessed and keep up your great work.
Cheers

Hi Ana!
It certainly looks like a tremendous idea. You’re the evidence that it works very well. The one thing I wonder about, though, is scalability. If you were doing 7 of these “campaigns” a week you’d hit critical mass at about 150 - 200 members (maybe even a lot less). Or am I missing something?
As I said, tremendous idea, but only for small groups perhaps?
Kind regards,
Steve

Yes, Steve, it only works for a small group of people.
For me, the magic number was 20. Once I had 20 members, I closed the doors.
With 20 members and 3 campaigns per week, every blog would get about 20-30 comments per week - plenty enough to create social proof and initiate true reader engagement.
Ana
Ah, OK. I don’t know much about Facebook groups, I didn’t know that you could “turn off” new memberships to prevent further people joining.

Great Ana,
When you are starting, just like in the wild, numbers do count and staying together can make all the difference. And because blogging is practically a social website it’s a very good idea to create a group of people (secret society - boy I like those
) that would help each other to prevail against those big monsters (A list bloggers).
I can see this strategy worked and you are now on your own two feet and people are struggling not to be eaten by your blog
.
(no blogger was hurt in the making of this comment, only the occasional stray visitor)

“I couldn’t find a good tribe, so I created my own.”

Ana,
From my heart, I feel you are one of the most creative bloggers out there.
Each of your posts presents innovate strategies I haven’t yet seen. Your FB commenting tribe idea is one of these. It’s well thought out and the proof for its effectiveness is your blog’s popularity.
My blog started to grow when I commented on others blogs. One week I had 4 comments per post, the next week I received 93 comments on a post. I networked intensely by adding value to other’s posts and received value in the form of increased traffic, social proof, and a really nice feeling of….”Yeah, people like my stuff enough to share it!”
Thanks for sharing and have a powerful day!

I’m not one of your tribe members but I still comment on your blog, because your content is worth it
Comments from users that are not ‘forced’ to comment are worth more than comments from tribe members who mostly comment for the sake of commenting.
You are very right, Andreas.
That’s why I am more of an “honorary” member of the tribe now; I gained my loyal readership through people like you and I am very grateful that you come here almost every day because you truly find that my content serves you.

Hi Ana,
I can not tell you how grateful for you I am. I was so nervous emailing you back in August to see if I could be part of your tribe. I know the rules were strict and I knew I would really be stepping up my game in a big way. And I felt like I was a kindergartner asking to play with the “big kids.”
Joining the tribe took commitment that I would be pumping out content regularly, and not just any content, it had to be worthy of comments from all of you experienced marketers in the group. I took a leap of faith and it was, by far, one of the best things I could have done for my business.
Thank you for all your help. When I joined the tribe my alexa rank was in the 3 Millions and today it is 109,985. I’ve grown in knowledge immensely because I’ve read some of the best blogs regularly and I’ve grown in other amazing ways as well. Mostly in the friendships and relationships that being a part of our tribe has given me.
It’s gone from professional connections to true friendships and I am so grateful. Thanks for letting me have the honor of taking a leadership role in the group. I’m so excited for the chance to make a difference for others like you have made a difference for me!

Hi Ana Great article about tribes. I just got done doing a post about tribes. I have been blogging since around 2006. My only regret is I didn’t get involved with tribes sooner.
I can really see the benefit joining a tribe has for a newbie blogger. There is so much to learn about how to blog and get seo ranking etc.. Finding a good tribe can really go a long way with helping a person learn the right skill sets.
