Typos on “their” and “linking.” Their should say “they’re” and linking should say “leaking.”

Hopefully it makes more sense now!

  • I used SEO Super Comments in the very beginning and took it off I think either because someone was complaining, or because I thought it wasn’t going to help the commenting situation.

I will probably reinstall it in the New Year. I’m also probably going to kiss Keyword Luv goodbye.

To answer your second question, I don’t think commenters “deserve” a quality link back to their websites. I think that mentality comes from the IM movement where people assume that you’re desperate for comments, and their desperate for links, and so you both are doing a favor for each other.

I’ll keep my blog dofollow and keep comment luv but I have already started being very picky about whose comments get approved and whose don’t. It’s not about linking page rank; I really could care less about that. It’s about maintaining quality overall.

    Good post, Ana.

  • Why Plugins Can’t Help You to Rank Better and What You Can Do About It
    Hi Julius,

You’re right. People often try and install things or buy this and that so they don’t have to “think” and unfortunately there’s nothing out there can do that yet.

So it’s critical for people to stop looking for a “solution” and start understanding the problem, applying critical thinking to solve it themselves, and then use the plugins for what they really are - just tools to make it easier.

  • Trackback Spam Be Gone: What I Use to Cut Down on Junk Trackbacks
I’ve also been using Simple Trackback Validation on my blog since the start, and I love it.

Will be passing this post on. I don’t know that people really understand a trackback to begin with, and so this will help. Everyone should have that plugin installed whether they understand the concept or not (kind of like taking vitamins and minerals). :)

  • Blog Audit Friday: How To Make Clever Marketer Even More Clever
Ana, this a great, thorough critique. No wonder it took you two days! I think the default behavior for WordPress is to make sidebar headings h3. You make an interesting point, though, as once I discovered I was ranking quite highly for one of my sidebar headings awhile back. LOL I never thought to use h4 and h5, but it makes sense to use them for sidebar stuff and reserve h3 for post titles on the home page.

    Good stuff.

  • How Twitter Traffic Generation Became My Largest Source of Referral Traffic: Lessons to Share
    Hi Ana,

I have found Twitter to be among the top referrers for my blog, as well. It started to level off at some point when I stopped intentionally growing followers, but the interesting thing is that the level of traffic remains consistent. (Plus, the more followers you have the more you get even w/o trying).

I use SproutSocial, which is a premium service, mainly because of its demographics reporting and interesting contact management tool. I also like HootSuite, and the regular new Twitter, too.

I had seen MarketMeTweet before when it was first launched and it looks like it’s finally become affordable, so I have gone ahead and purchased a monthly to see what happens (for my clients, mainly).

    Cheers!
    Tia

Hi Ana, I usually comment in some high traffic blogs mainly for my link building campaign. But whenever I find an article which gives more values to the readers I don’t worry about the Nofollow, dofollow thing. I just post a comment to appreciate the author. The later is the reason that I am commenting here.
