There are many websites that sell high pagerank backlinks. What do you think of that? Is it safe to buy some of them or is it a risk? Is it possible to have problems of Black Hat SEO?
NEVER buy links, Google can see right through it.
By the way, it’s much better to use your name in comments; I was debating whether to approve yours or send it to spam just for that reason.

Hello there Ana
Nice topic! I’ve been doing SEO services for almost 1 year now. All of your strategies are correct but there’s one thing that I would like to ask and clarify from you, why is it that “Link Exchange” is not good in building links? For example, your peer in exchanging has a higher PR but then he still wants to have an exchange to your lower PR site? isn’t that a great benefit to you? Thanks!
Good question, Jeff.

Check out this article I just read on reciprocal linking - I definitely agree with every word of it.

Phew there is so much to learn! I try to maintain a small number of blogs so I can implement each tip gradually overall and watch my success rate build! Each time I begin a new project I realize how much I have learnt up to this point. Thanks for your excellent blog post tips, I will keep reading
I know what you mean, Adwello - no matter what stage of internet marketing we are in, we still have so much to learn!
That’s what makes it a even playing field, I suppose.

Thanks Ana for your helpful information. This is a very comprehensive list on link building. I know that this will be a great help for me as a link builder also.
You are very welcome!
Ana
Hi Ana!
I recently found your website through a recommendation from a close friend. The tips are great and I’ll suggest it to one of my friends. Keep it up!
Thanks, Vada; glad you found me.
See you back soon!
Ana
I have been mainly concentrating on directories to start my link building with forums, social networks and blogs starting to creep into my routine - thankyou for point no.10. Thankyou for these other suggestions of places I can go to build my link building hot pot
Jayne
I must say that your writings are always easy to understand and neat Ana, it’s nice to coming here and get some golden egg from your knowledge. Hope you don’t mind if i share some of it on my blog (with sparkled eye).
Wish you the best,
Wen
Hm….after i read it once again the last sentence might lead to a misunderstanding. I mean that you don’t mind that i share the knowledge i get from you, not making a copy cat of your writings.
Hi,This is really seems very interesting only because here you have mentioned great points for the SEO. I am really impressed to know about that and i hope it will be very beneficial for all of us. Anyways keep it up and keep continue with your valuable thoughts.
Thanks; glad you got something out of it. Hope to see you back soon.
Ana
Most important links are links to your website from an already established website within a specific related content. Google loves these links as a contextual link usually means that someone is writing and recommending your website within a text to their visitors, for example in a review.
You hit the bull’s eye, Andreas.
A link is a link? We all know it’s not quite true and the ones you pointed out in your comment are definitely THE perfect combination.
Ana
Ana, thank you. These are fantastic recommendations. I have been sharing lots of your posts with my colleagues here. I can’t think of the number of times I am asked about signing up to a link building service to add thousands of paid links quickly - so far I have resisted this.
You help me to explain best practices like no other blogger out there to those on my team.
I appreciate it, Gary, and love hearing that my blog helps.
Keep staying away from paid link services; you can do much better on your own, especially with some of my posts.
Ana
Found you through - Twitter! - don’t know if you recall (I’m not on there as much as I’d like) and glad to have found you again (Tia/Dev): reason being you’re an awesome writer.
Your tips are spot on. Thanks for the link building tips - makes me feel like I’m not the sole nut on the planet who thinks forum spamming is what it is.
Fake meat, high in nitrates.
Ok Ana…You just kicked my butt here.
That’s a good thing. There’s nothing wrong with learning a few strategies to bring some link luv back to your site.
Now I have to go implement the ones I’m totally missing out on.
Have a great day,
@JeromeRatliff
Let me know how it goes.
Hi
Thanks for another well balanced article - and an important topic at that.
Pete
You are welcome, Peter. I’ve got to say I love your avatar! Close personal friend?
Cats do not disclose who their friends are - so I have to keep my lips sealed LOL
Ana,
You have such a way of simplifying this SEO stuff. I love coming to your blog and learning new nuggets that I can implement and apply right away in my blog. I have been doing a good job overall on building deep links, but I’m not as balanced with links from various sources like you suggested in the post. Something to work on and improve upon.
Thanks for the helpful information,
Heather
I do try to make it as simple as possible, although many people still don’t get it
. Thanks for encouragement, Heather.
By the way, I wrote another post on One Way Link Building; this one will help you with link building even more.
Ana
Thank you for the great reminder Ana, I am currently having issues with my blog and will take this info back and look to disect my blog for the hangups.
Let me know if there is anything I can help you with, Robert.
Ana
Great post Ana there does seem to be a lot of debate with this. Especially with the introduction of google caffeine it seemed there would be more emphasis on on page seo. It seems to me and like your article suggest links rule. Thanks for sharing.
Steve Shoemaker
My personal opinion is that Google Caffeine did not change the importance of links one bit, Steve, and I have not heard anything to the contrary from anyone else.
Glad to see you back from a couple of weeks of silence!
Ana, I love reading your posts, even though a lot of it is over my head. This may be a dumb question, but what do you mean by adding links? Do you mean adding links to past posts in your current post, or adding links to other websites? I’m confused!
No problem at all. Here’s what you need to know about links simplified.
There are 3 kinds of possible links you can build around your website:
1. Going from your site to other sites.
2. Going from other sites to your site.
3. Links between posts within your site.
The second type of links is very important for search engines to determine how important your website is compared to others. The more links you have from authority sites going TO your site, the more Google thinks of you and the more likely it is to rank your site higher.
So when I say “adding links” I mean finding ways to leave your links back to your own site on other people’s blogs/sites.
I noticed that you provided your name as “Healthnut Foodie” in the comment, but you did not add your website in the space provided for it. Had you done that, then you would’ve linked my blog to your site.
Does it make sense?
It’s certainly very important to learn the basics of link building before moving on to stuff that I write about. However, you need to know it only if you would like to see your site on the first page of Google for your targeted terms.
If SEO is not something you are planning to focus on in the future, then it’s OK not to learn all this.
Hope this helps!
Ana
au naturel Ana?
I like these tips, partly because you just don’t see some of them talked about.
Thanks for another great post! I always learn something here.
Susanna
It’s absolutely my pleasure, Susanna. I love writing about things that few other bloggers talk about.
Ana, Let’s try this again
I commented earlier but it ended up in never never land.
I was actually trying to use the KeywordLuv feature and linking to a blog post (deep) rather than my home page.
Great points though, and the secret is to be natural and mix it up.
Peter
Ana.. thanks for the very informative post
I’m starting to take my link building a lot more seriously after I started reading your posts.. as always - great stuff
Glad I gave you a push in the right direction, Hector; let me know if you have any questions!
Ana
Brilliant article Ana,
A great round up of link building strategies. Even apart from keeping it natural for the Search Engines, the more of these approaches you use, the more links you’ll get.
Love #2. Don’t let your website hang out in bad company.
Jym
Very true, Jym.
Also, consistency is very important - something I don’t do very well myself.
Ana
Hey Ana,
Again, very impressive and helpful content. Like Thomas said, there seems to be many SEO experts out there telling you different things, making it very confusing for the learning blogger.
What I actually got out of this was really just let the link building go through its natural course, which I’m very happy to do. Google will always pick up if you’re trying to gain their system. Provide good content and the SEO will take care of itself over time.
I am going to look into how to find more related pages to link from.
Thanks again,
Wayne
That’s exactly right. Let your links come naturally for all kinds of websites with the only exception of bad neighborhood websites. Although I am sure most of us stay away from them by instinct.
I am planning to publish a post tomorrow on how to perform searches to find the best linking prospects for your specific niche.
Pleasure to have you here, Wayne.
Hey Ana
Just like Google wants, be natural
You have YourKeyWords plugin installed which is a great way to mix things up.
Peter
Hey Ana,
This is a very comprehensive list on link building. Everyone should print this out and paste it in front of their screen every time they are writing a post for a blog.
Chat with you later…
Josh
Thanks, Josh.
I see you started working on some keywords for you site; glad you are utilizing KeywordLuv to build some keyword-oriented links.
Ana
Thank you for the great information Ana. So many people are unaware of the power that diversifying your links from media sites holds. I’ve had several sites, with little content at the beginning, rank very high on Google by following these simple guidelines.
I must say I am really impressed with your SEO skills, Karen, but even more so I am impressed with how you keep up with all your blogs!
Those are great tips, particularly about deep-linking. Find those hidden PR2 and PR3 pages in your blog and figure out what made those posts so “linkable” - and your linking strategy will greatly improve.
Absolutely, Roy - the power of observation and analytics will definitely get you further thank anything else in SEO.
Find what already works and make it better!
Hey Ana,
Great linking tips you are sharing here. You always provide value and great advice. You ROCK!
All the best,
Mavis Nong
Right back at you, Mavis:).
Great post as always Ana. Thanks for sharing. Lisa
You are very welcome, Lisa; glad you found some time to stop by.
I love the way you write these articles. The resume at the end is very helpful. I tend to forget to do that in my own articles on http://www.miracletutorials.com. Reminds me I have give more attention to that aspect.
I normally do not care much about SEO, but I think I’m going to follow up on your advice. See if it helps me getting a higher ranking (currently 4/10).
Just wonder how somebody gets 600 links in the first month? That’s 20 a day! Where do you get the time to do that?
4/10 is a great spot to be in, but I know you can do better, Rudolf, with just a little extra work.
Thanks for stopping by!
Ana, Great article with some great and well thought out SEO practices. I always love to read your stuff.
Thank you, Steve; I must confess I always enjoy it when you stop by and let me know your thoughts in comments.
Look forward to seeing you back soon!
Ana,
I’ve found that sites developed under google sites have a sort of “advantage” over the others, maybe it’s just a first impression. Another thing that i’ve seen is that the sites developed under google sites are not well ranked on yahoo or bing. Is there a reason for that?
I have not noticed that, Samuel.
As far as Yahoo and Bing are concerned, they do have their own optimization guidelines and once you conquer Google, it’s good to look into those if you haven’t already ranked in those engines as well.
Thanks for stopping by!
You’re amazing. From several years of doing SEO for small local businesses, I agree with everything you say. Grand advice.
One think I’d say though, is that unless you have a very specific niche (left-handed scissors for teenaged male Brazilian hatmakers) your chances of getting ranked high in Google are pretty slim. In the MLM industry, competition for common keywords is pretty intense. Better to concentrate on addiing good content -adding quality links as you go - than to worship the almighty Google. By the way, have you seen http://IsGoogleGod.com?
You’ve just given me the idea for my next niche John. Inspired!
Forget it Lisa, I already own the male and female niches for this one
Why so pessimistic, John? Most of the bloggers I interact with are in MLM business and I must say very few of them have any idea about SEO.
I do agree about referral traffic though - you can definitely build a very strong blog just on that. Most of my traffic still comes from referral sites.
Loved Google website!
And thanks for the compliment; I am so glad I make sense.
Hi Ana,
thanks for your very informative post. It shows that I am partially on track, but still need to do some homework - space to improve.
Take care
Oliver
We all could use some improvement, Oliver; fortunately, there’s never such a thing as “we have arrived” in business. Otherwise, it would get boring!
Thanks for stopping by!
Ana,
I have recently found your site and I am enjoying your tips. Straight and to the point and -best of all- not stuffed with self-promotional rants like the blogs of many other SEO experts.
I have a small company organizing dental travel to Budapest and I do my own SEO for budget reasons. One of the things I find most difficult is finding good ways to get deep links to my website (I do not want to spam forums with no moderators and a lot of spam messages about red, blue, or green pills or some extracts from the jungle).
Maybe this could be the topic of one of your future posts. If you have some good ideas how to do this and maybe some advise on what not to do when using e.g. social bookmarking sites I will definitely find that yet another interesting read of yours.
Thank you for your great tips and clean writing.
Hi, Thomas: I do understand it might be difficult to find good links.
Another reason for not posting to pages that already have many “spammy” links on them is the fact that Google might deem them to be bad neighborhood eventually. So you are absolutely right to stay away from those.
You can learn a lot about linking from my free SEO guide I offer on my blog. Also, I WILL make a post about how to find better links; probably later this week. So check back!
Ana
