You either have it or you don’t.
Many of us were raised with that in mind, and here we are - walking around this world looking at others who definitely do have it and learning to be OK with it.
I say: Hack be with it!

This post is the concluding part to the great 4-part “The Best Bloggers Are Natural Hackers” series, started by Kiesha Keasley from WeBlogBetter.com

If you’ve got it, good for you; if you don’t, GO GET it.
Lesson 1. Natural Hackers Are Doers
I am not necessarily talking about hard work here, although there is a great amount of that involved as well.
I am talking about setting the goals you want to achieve and figuring out the best, most innovative route to get there.
Take the road less traveled, in other words.
For instance, I’ve been struggling with what to write about in this post for about a week now. I still don’t know where this post will end.
However, instead of complaining about the “writer’s block”, here I am talking to you and letting my ideas lead me.
If you don’t start doing it, it’ll never get done. Period.
So start today.
Lesson 2. Mind the Changes
Many of us are afraid of changes, yours truly included.
I was first introduced to the idea of creating an online business by an MLM company about 2 years ago.
Since I have a very impulsive nature, I jumped right into it and worked very hard for a year. I was determined to make it work.
However, no matter how hard I tried, I just kept on beating against a brick wall. There was a lot of training available; unfortunately, that training was focused on methods that simply didn’t work and were very counter-intuitive.
My point: hard work alone just doesn’t work.
You need more than that; namely, the smarts to know that what you are doing isn’t working and the guts to make the change.
That’s exactly what I did back then: went off the beaten track in search of the answers. I went out of my comfort zone without any support or guidance, knowing that it was time for a change.
I ended up quitting that MLM company shortly thereafter, but I didn’t see it as giving up. I saw it as letting myself and my business naturally evolve and that sometimes involves practicing “out with the old, in with the new” principle.
Lesson 3. Education Is the Key
Whoever said that if an online business requires an investment of any kind, it must be a scam, has never made a dime online, I am convinced of it.
If you don’t have it naturally, you go learn it from someone who does, even if it costs you a pretty penny. Hanging around forums and blogs all day just won’t do the trick, trust me (although it does exclude MY blog, naturally; you can and should hang around here all you want).
Mind you, if you are not in any rush to make money and can spend all the time in the world learning free stuff from blogs and forums, this doesn’t pertain to you.
You may or may not be surprised to know that although I am now a proud owner of a fairly popular blog, I am still in the red as far as my income is concerned.
Why? Because I am not interested in making a few hundred dollars per month working this hard. I might as well go get a job then and not bother with a business.
My goal for my business is to create true wealth.
So with that in mind, I am prepared to invest in myself and my business for as long as it takes to get there.
I seek out and utilize the best tools, best trainers, best advice I can get hold of - it’s that important.
Lesson 4. Become the Leader.
Natural hackers are all leaders, no question about it.
“Am I a leader?” was the very first smart question I asked myself when I realized that I was failing in network marketing.
And the very first book I ever read on the subject turned my business upside down and set me on the right path to online success.
Many of you in network marketing heard of it. But I don’t want you to just know of it. I want you to read it. Today. NOW.
Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard.
Check this out:
“Essentially, we are hard-wired to find other people attractive or un-attractive based on the level of value they have to offer, because we gain a portion of their power/value through association.”
“You see, there are basically three categories of people in life… Alphas, Pre-Alphas, and Betas. You can also think of these as established leaders, up-and-coming leaders, and followers respectively.”
“The group you’re in is determined not by money, experience, the job you have or anything or anyone else for that matter. It’s determined by your STATE OF MIND, which is not given or bestowed upon you by others. Rather, your group reflects your personal beliefs about yourself.”
“Successful entrepreneurs, by definition, are Alphas. Beta entrepreneurs (and I mean “real” entrepreneurs) don’t exist.”
You see what I mean?
Only true leaders will make it in this business. Are you one… yet? Are you on your way to become a natural hacker?
Lesson 5. Practical Application: Let’s See What You’ve Got
One of the pillar posts I wrote a while back is 202 Bite-Sized Tips To Insanely Increase Your Blog Traffic.
Most of you have read it. Some of you have printed it out and even put it on the wall.
But how many of you realize that that’s the best hacker manual out there - known to me, anyway?
Those are the very out of the box strategies I used to build up Traffic Generation Cafe within a few months. This is exactly how I became a hacker!
Let me show you what I mean.
Tip 38. Write exclusively about a certain theme for a week.
This is my first theme-week - all about content writing. And it’s turning to be quite a hit and bringing in more traffic that I never had before.
I have several more “theme” weeks planned - now that I know they work.
Tip 39. Ask a question everyone else is afraid of asking.
Just wrote a post based on that tip: Keep Your Money, Honey: Which Internet Marketing Products Are Not Worth Their Salt.
In that post, I openly talked about all the internet marketing products that drained my pocket, but did nothing for my business. Needless to say, it was a hit.
Going against the grain is never a comfortable feeling, yet the reward just might be worth it.
Tip 53. Write a list of 101 people, blogs, topics in your niche.
I surely did use that one to its fullest - only I doubled the number. The reason I did that was because I saw a post on 101 traffic generation tips, and naturally, I needed to go bigger and better than that.
Tip 95. Post on the weekends because there are fewer posts.
Just started doing that with my Sunday Coffee with Ana series.
Originally, just wanted to see how much traffic I can get on Sunday. Turned out - a lot.
Then my readers suggested I do live broadcasts (tip 44. Crowdsource your next post idea to your readers) and by the time this post is published, I would’ve already done my first one. Hope it went well…
And here’s your challenge: show me what you’ve got.
Show me and your readers, but most of all, yourself that you have a hacker in you, that you can and will see something where others see nothing.
The Challenge
Below you’ll find 7 tips from my extensive 202 Bite-Sized Tips To Insanely Increase Your Blog Traffic.
See, I did half of the work for you by narrowing 202 tips down to only 7! 🙂
I challenge you to take these simple tips and write a fabulous one-of-a-kind post based on any one of them. Link it to my Bite-Sized Tips post - that way I will follow the pingback back to your blog and check out your post.
The time frame for this challenge is 2 WEEKS.
In 2 weeks, I will gather the best posts from this challenge and highlight them in a post on my blog.
Why you should do it:
- Show yourself and the blogosphere that you ARE a hacker at heart and you do have what it takes to succeed in this industry.
- I just gave you an idea for a great blog post - something that many bloggers complain they have hard time coming up with.
- You will possibly (probably, I should say) get featured in a post here, at Traffic Generation Cafe, in front of my 11K+ readers.
- You’ll get a DoFollow link.
- You will do me a favor by helping me do some link building for my 202 Bite-Sized Tips To Insanely Increase Your Blog Traffic! If you do it using “blog traffic” as anchor text, that would be fantastic!
See - everybody wins!
So here’s your list of tips to base your blog post on:
Tip #138. Create an exhaustive list of jargon for your niche – with definitions.
Tip #151. Make a post about what in your niche is being done wrong and how to correct it.
Tip #157. Create a list of “bite-sized” tips for your niche.
Tip #162. Collect inspirational quotes from other bloggers in your niche; compile them in a post.
Tip #166. Ask other bloggers (preferably more influential ones) to review your blog and make a post about their findings.
Tip #174. Be a comedian – “They’ll be standing in line for that old honky-tonk monkey shine!”
Tip #193. Do a Twitter search on a particular subject, compile them in photoshop and do a review of the trend.
Remember: 2 WEEKS!
Marketing Takeaway
Anyone can become a blogging hacker. All you need to do is give your brain a chance to be creative.
I look forward to reading your posts!
(And if for some reason, I don’t visit your post, send me a message with the link - sometimes pingbacks are unreliable.)

I understand your frustration a little better now, Ana. Your suggested topics would be great traffic drivers for almost every blogger, and to get highlighted on this site to boot - wow! I’m sad that I’m just finding this post as the two week time period expires. 🙁 I think I’m still going to participate just because it’s such a great idea.
Very kind of you, Annette - and much appreciated.
Ana
I believe you have already read my challenge post, Ana 😉
Yes, I did and already added it to my future post! 🙂
Woo hoo! Thanks very much, Ana! 🙂
Now that is Hacking!!!
Brilliant way to put a spin on the series Ana - definitely something only a true Hacker could have come up with!
Respect.
…and definitely value add for everyone when the dust settles.
I have a post for you, but I think it shall wait now 🙂
at least 2 weeks anyway
Are you crazy? Waiting for what? My readers loved your previous post; would love to see the next one.
And… thank you!
This is a great way to end the series.. I, like you, let go of my first MLM company that I was involved with back in December 2008 right after reading Magnetic Sponsoring.
That book went deeper than just building a network marketing business - it was a guide to building a business that was truly yours. Something you can call your own. If it wasn’t for that book I probably would’ve been lost an confused for a lot longer than I was.
You brought me back.. I can’t believe it was 2 years ago. It feels like yesterday 🙂
Same sentiment here, Hector - I still consider that book a game changer for my online career.
Thanks for repeating these strategies, Ana. You just gave me an idea for a future blog post. Since I cover comics, I’m going to attempt to list 101 cartoonists any aspiring comics creator should take a look at.
Thank you so much. 🙂
That’s exactly my point, Max. My traffic generation strategies work for ANY niche - just a little imagination goes a long way!
Make sure you send me the link; would love to see it.
You are such a hacker Ana 🙂
Your post is a great example of a hack.
Maybe I will combine #138 and #174, but for sure I will contribute a post.
Peter
So great to hear that, Peter - I’d love to see what you come up with!
Ana
I’m alive!
“You need more than that; namely, the smarts to know that what you are doing isn’t working and the guts to make the change.”
I love that line, and it’s why I feel that testing is so important, along with the right mindset about the whole “failure” thing. There really is no failure only lessons of what not to do. If you know that not everything is going to work out, and you’ll work to find what does, it’s a lot less frustrating when things don’t work out. But try we must!
I agree, Robert - failure is only that when you walk away from something without giving it another try. Learning from your own mistakes is still the best way to learn!
Hey Ana,
I have been following this series and what an awesome way to wrap it up! Well done!
Great lessons you are sharing here. Your pillar post ROCKS! I’m publishing my first one tomorrow 🙂
Re the challenge, count me in! Thanks for all you do for the blogging community, Ana.
All the best,
Mavis
Thanks so much, Mavis, and I am very excited to see that you are up for the challenge… not that I doubted you would be. 🙂
Look forward to it!
Ana,
I’m in! I’m taking the challenge. With 202 -7 bite sized tips, that would seem like a lot to write about 😀
Will let you know when I come up with a post. Hope to grab your attention. Been following this series around the blogosphere and I love the way you written this one out.
Yay, Bryan - make it a good one!
Ana,
Okay, I am in. I like the 7 choices. I already have a few ideas.
I have been blogging in a series. It really does help me keep a flow going and I like the continuity it brings to my site.
Love it, Sheila - look forward to your post!
Ana - That is a great point you made when you mentioned that hard work alone just doesn’t work. You’re story sounds so familiar to me because I too was hitting a brick wall and knew it was time for a change.
By the way that looks like a great challenge and I hope to participate in it. I’m off to check out the other posts I missed in this 4 part series.
I would love for you to take part in the challenge, John.
These traffic generation tips apply to ANY niche - and you are just the man to prove that! 🙂
Look forward to seeing your post!
Wow, Ana!
Awesome conclusion to this series. Looks like you ended up totally having fun with it! 😀 I especially like the “Are you a leader?” section. That really adds to the flavor that I was trying to get at but wasn’t able to articulate. I hadn’t thought about it in stages before - I’m definitely shooting for an Alpha spot!
We already know you’re an Alpha Ana! 🙂 I’m loving this post!
Thanks soooo much, Kiesha - this was such a fabulous idea for a series!
I did have fun, even though it happened by accident. 🙂
I hope some people who are not in the blogging niche pick up this challenge, because that is where it is needed most!
I love what you write about going against the grain and I think it is a valuable and worthwhile exercise. It depends on which grain you will go against, though, as to whether it will bring LASTING traffic. If it’s clever enough, it may bring loads of traffic just because it is so different.
You are so right, Tia - I wish more bloggers stepped out of their comfort zone as well. Some of them dismiss these kind of challenges because they lack the creativity to see how to apply it to their prospective niches.
In some case, going against the grain might be the ONLY thing that would bring lasting traffic.
Well well well….I loves me a good challenge! I am going to have to dig into my brilliance bag and see what flows.
I love the theme week Ana and I look forward to more. Am I an alpha~~not yet. But I assure you I am in that pre stage and I will be….sooner rather than later. 🙂
Do the happy dance,
Lisa
Here’s me doing the happy dance. 🙂 Tomorrow is coming… you might not like me any longer…
I knew you’d be up for the challenge - look forward to the post!
And by the way, we tend to be our own worst judges. I think you ARE a leader; you just lack the confidence to act like one. Not for long though…
Not like you any longer, eh?! I am mentally preparing my friend.
As for the confidence, it builds everyday and I just you wait and see how this 2011 pans out! 🙂
By the way, fabulous happy dance…;)
Lisa
working on to become a good hacker and have to admit that patience and mart work are the key to success. Always blog for passion not for money.
But turning your passion into money is even better, Vivek! 🙂
